alrightalrightalright , this is my gal sylvia and she’s .... well , she tries her best

so she’s born / raised in black sheep . how depressing , right ? i know . her parents , sofía and antonio , met when they were twenty back in the ‘90s . both black sheep natives & hated it , but neither had the means to leave . so they didn’t . instead , they got married three years later in ‘93 , and a year later had their first child : a son named santiago .

when santiago was three , a new addition to the growing family was added : sylvia . born in ‘97 on january 20th ( aka the capricorn-aquarius ‘ cusp of mystery and imagination ’ ) , she was far from the perfect baby , but that didn’t stop her parents from caring any less . they were ecstatic to have a little girl .

needless to say , the baby photos are ridiculous and sylvia never wants anyone to ever see them ‘cause the fashion choices were very fuckin’ questionable !

by the time santiago was six & sylvia was three , their mother gave birth to the final moreno sibling : another boy , francisco .

this makes sylvia the dreaded middle child , but honestly the middle child trope doesn’t apply to her ?? both parents were as loving as could be for raising three children in a cramped suburban home in this shitty fuckin’ town . the family solace ended up being church , for sure . as both sofía and antonio have always been p devout roman catholics , they brought up their children in the same faith . all children have been baptized , have had communion & were confirmed .

it was a strict upbringing , no matter how warm the atmosphere was , plain & simple . this is partially why sylvia is so reckless and overly-adventurous ; she wants to experience everything she can , no matter if she gets hurt in the process . always the kid with scrapped elbows , maybe a bloody nose , and dirty bruised knees --- prompting her mother to continuously have first-aid in the house & when they went on the go ( which , wasn’t too often , but regardless . )

sofía and antonio still work at the church they frequented ( and still do frequent , work or personal reasons . it’s also the church they met in & eventually got married in ! talk ab history , huh ? ) ; francisco’s only finishing high school this year , he’s so unsure of what he wants to do . santiago , on the other hand , got out of this hell & went to fresno state / craig school of business to complete his bachelor's degree from an aacsb . he also served two extra years of professional work in that time , and is currently doing full-time mba at ucla on a scholarship .

yeah , it’s a lot to live up to when it comes to business boy santiago . ofc the moreno parents are extremely proud of their eldest & they’re lenient of their youngest ‘cause hey , not everyone knows what they want to do at such a young age .

but then there’s sylvia , middle child & only girl . and she’s always loved music , and she’s always banging on pots & pans & whatever other usable surface / object she could find around the house to drive everyone else crazy , because she didn’t realize how awful it sounded at the beginning . she remembers her first set of drums when she was ten --- wasn’t even hers , honestly . was one of her cousins , a christmas gift gone to waste because he didn’t even use it . so eventually , they decided it would be better to just let sylvia take it .

they soon enough invested into drum lessons for her around her eleventh birthday , ‘cause it’s been like a year since & they knew she wouldn’t stop drumming away whenever she could , and her love bloomed more -- much to her parents’ dismay .

although supportive of their children , sofía and antonio wish sylvia took her life & education more seriously --- “ why couldn’t you become a nurse or something... less fickle ? ” // “ you won’t get anywhere with music , mija , please think ab your future . ” // “ we just want what’s best for you . ”

which is bigger bullshit than this awful town ! 

sylvia never told them what exatly she was going to college for , all they knew is that she was going . long story short : they were v upset she “ selectively told the truth ” ( because she didn’t tell them anything , so it couldn’t’ve been lying ! )

anyway , yeah . she still plays drums and she’s gotten hella good at it . also in between , managed to take some singing lessons ( singing at church wasn’t ever enough for her , honestly . ) ; she’s rooming with jade vandermeer , & they’re bff honestly alongside sage wells & nessa belfrey !! we stan iconic girl gangs . her & jade have a lot of jam sessions .

sometimes , said jam session is at 2 a.m. etc which annoys the fuck out of the others in the building , oops !

sylvia will make multiple playlists for friends , a real spotify queen

despite her passionate focus on music , when sylvia was in high school she was actually captain of the girls’ volleyball team

to this day she still considers herself to be roman catholic , however it isn’t as intense as it was growing up now that she isn’t directly under her parents’ influence anymore

hello everyone! i am riina (she/her) and i am super excited to be here! here are some nuggets of information on my sweet amira. 

okay, so! amira and her four siblings were all born in dhahran, saudi arabia where her saudi father and american-born mother were both working as doctors for aramco. amira spent the first eight years of her life in KSA before the family decided to relocate to stanford where her parents continue to work. her father in particular is pretty renowned in the field of neurology.

her parents made it very clear they expected their children to find some sort of a passion in life and pursue it as long as it made sense and would provide a decent living. amira sort of bullshitted her way through the subjects she found even mildly boring - she really has no patient for things that don’t interest her - but did remarkably well in the subjects she actually cared for to the point where she would do calculus for fun. what a nerd.

she fell in love with computers and coding at an early age. her parents fully embraced their daughter’s interest and allowed her to dick around with the family computer.

high school wasn’t a fun time for amira; she struggled to form friendships outside of her family for most of her teenage years and ended up feeling like a complete outsider. she was also chastised for her inattentiveness and restlessness by teachers and extended family. she was later diagnosed with ADHD and was homeschooled for the last year and a half of high school since her school couldn’t offer the support she needed. luckily for her, homeschooling really helped her academically. 

actually went on to study computer science at caltech! she did fairly well simply because she actually loved what she was studying and actually felt at home. HOWEVER, the thought of pursuing a higher degree and/or becoming one of the silicon valley types made her freak the fuck out. luckily for her she didn’t have to do either; she and a fellow student developed a website optimization platform where companies could test different versions of their website in order to improve accessibility and customer experience. 

while their software ended up being a hit, things went south when amira and her business partner started a pretty tumultuous relationship and soon realized it was a terrible idea. this is when she walked out and escaped to black sheep. she now makes a living as a web developer and is generally pleased despite missing her former job’s challenges. 

while she usually seems super confident and comfortable in her skin, amira does struggle with the way her ADHD affects some aspects of her everyday life. she’s still trying to get rid of some lingering self-hatred and can go from incredibly self-assured to beyond flustered in one second flat.

SUCH A LOVING SOUL. she’s really trying and will befriend almost anyone. kind of overbearing in her enthusiasm.

amira has lived in black sheep for nearly four years. she would have formed some friendships in that time and it’d be great to have those connections from the very start! pls let amira rant about tech things, i’m begging you.

perhaps a former client, someone who needed amira to code a website or just teach them some basic HTML for whatever reason.

perhaps a past fling or two? or even an ongoing thing! could be of any gender!

give me a neighbor who just can’t comprehend her bizarre circadian rhythm and might voice their concerns, or a person who frequents the same coffee shop and is there to witness amira’s frantic typing as she codes like an absolute madwoman while trying to finish her projects.

     hey guys ! i’m mash and this is zach!! he plays for the san jose sharks but he’s on IR rn for a few weeks due to an injury and subsequent surgery so he’s back in black sheep. more under the cut!

( chris zylka | he/him | cismale ) livin’ in the sprawl can be interesting for ZACH MICHAEL. the 24 year old is a PRO-HOCKEY PLAYER living in a TOWNHOUSE when i met them, they seemed kind of LOYAL, but also kind of BLUNT. who knows what they’ll be like? [ THE SCRAP OF SKATE BLADES ON CRYSTAL LAKES, A SORE THROAT FROM SCREAMING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM WITH GOLD AROUND YOUR NECK AND STARS AND STRIPES ON YOUR SHOULDERS, THE TENSION BEFORE THE PUCK DROPS, SWEAT DRIPPING BETWEEN SHOULDER BLADES, BURNING MUSCLES AND A MIND THAT TELLS YOU TO IGNORE IT ]

zach grew up in a suburb of boston with his parents and older sister eliza

however, his parents divorced when he was very young. so he was raised mostly by his dad and older sister

he and eliza spent time between their dad’s home in boston and their mother’s hometown in black sheep

eventually their father went bankrupt and they had to move in with their mother in black sheep when zach was ten

eliza (eight years older than him) when to community college in black sheep for two years before leaving to do god knows what when zach was 12

zach had already fallen in love with hockey back in boston and pursued it in black sheep the best he could --even making the trek to san francisco for better more visible teams ( cali still isn’t the best visible state for hockey --it’s no boston that’s for sure )

on the eve of his 16th birthday he tried out for the ndtp and made it

it was a glorious two years in ann arbor, finally getting away from black sheep

okay team usa has only won gold at wjc in 2017 but whatever

honestly a lot of the timeline in this doens’t make sense with irl hockey im sorry

went to BU for a year before being drafted to the sharks. he went right to the nhl after that

his first year in the league he did tremendously well and won the calder trophy

(during this time his mother passed away, leaving a small pool of money and the townhouse in black sheep)

the money was little use and he donated much of it, but the house left to eliza and him --they couldn’t bear to sell it despite the not great memories in black sheep

so now he spends his summers between friends’ houses in boston and what could be considered ‘home’ in black sheep

(is it really home though?)

but yeah, zach made a very good impression during his three year elc and was signed to a very lucrative long term contract. money isn’t an issue, and he helps eliza out when she has trouble

the michael sibling way is to never stay long. they never stay long in one place, even ‘home’ in black sheep

but they also keep coming back for whatever reason

( margot robbie | she/her | cisfemale) livin’ in the sprawl can be interesting for JAMIE OWENS. the 26 year old is a REGISTERED NURSE living in an APARTMENT when i met them, they seemed kind of IMMERSED, but also kind of RIGID. who knows what they’ll be like? workaholic registered nurse, dedicated to the point of having dreams about being at works when she’s not, but she genuinely loves it

born to a pair of high school teachers and the youngest of six siblings, she’s always been the most protected one of the bunch, sometimes to the point of feeling suffocated. she had a difficult time with the guilt of leaving home considering she was the last one to go out on her own

born & raised in southern california

basically a duckling: cool, calm, and collected on the surface, but her feet are constantly peddling under the water to keep her afloat. really gentle and timid demeanor and the ideal person to get stuck in an elevator with because she’ll soothe the anxiety away, but only because she hides her own so well

really type-A though she’s self aware of her micromanaging tendencies and tries to remind herself to let loose and not fear the unknown so much

paints to relieve stress and knows that it’s nothing more than a hobby, nothing noteworthy, but incredibly intrinsically important to her

slow to warm up, quick to care, even quicker to forgive.

     i am tater and this is eliza, the other half of the michael siblings. she’s a photographer for nat geo and never stays long in one place ( even more so than her brother ).

( katheryn winnick | she/her | cisfemale ) livin’ in the sprawl can be interesting for ELIZA MICHAEL. the 32 year old is a PHOTOGRAPHER living in a TOWNHOUSE when i met them, they seemed kind of ADAPTABLE, but also kind of UNPREDICTABLE. who knows what they’ll be like? yeah so the childhood stuff is pretty much the same as zach’s, parents divorced early, lived in boston with her dad and zach until their dad went bankrupt. moved to live with their mom in black sheep

she was 18 and finishing her senior year in black sheep and she was so tempted to leave right then. she’d never liked living in one place for long and black sheep especially made her feel trapped

ultimately, she decided to stay at least two more years for zach, studying at community college

she basically brought up zach

not that their mom was abusive but she was extremely busy and they were left alone a lot

it was zach that convinced her to leave in the end bc she didn’t want to but the town was bearing down on her mentally. she had to get out.

so she did

she lived an extremely minimalist life, being able to pack all her things into a duffel bag and an overnight backpacking backpack

it took a great deal of charisma and connections, but she worked her way from city to city, chipping away at her savings, hopping trains and flights doing freelance photography, sometimes holding a job at a newspaper for a few months.

her longest stint was almost ten months long in ann arbor when zach was with the ntdp

she would drop in home at black sheep for a few days, a couple weeks at a time to see zach and make sure he was doing all right

they’re very close despite the massive age gap

when their mother died, eliza technically inherited the house

she took it as kind of a fuck you from their mother for not being home and staying in one place

gave the house to zach bc even she couldn’t bare to sell it tho

a little after their mom’s death she landed a job with nat geo that would allow her to travel and satisfy her need to always be moving

however, she always has a key to the black sheep house and an open invitation from zach

she’s in black sheep now between jobs for an undisclosed amount of time
