“The most expensive item on this menu is…” Jimmy glanced down at the laminated sheet in front of him and saw the smoked salmon and bagels for a whopping $16. “…is not anything worth having.” He pushed the menu away and grinned at her. “Those five servings of fries though, now we’re talking!” He gestured for the waitress and relayed his order, cutting the five servings down to two. “We’ll start slow, work our way up to five.” He winked at Amira and slid into the open seat at her table, glancing down at the crossword puzzle still in her hand. “So now that we’ve given up on the crossword, can you keep me company?”
“That’s a damn shame. I was so ready to throw my money away,” she lamented, neatly folding the newspaper before tossing it to the furthest corner of the table. She wouldn’t be needing it for entertainment any longer. “You have truly saved me. The salad,” her voice grew lower, “is not very good. I’m not sure why that would be surprising.” Things had clearly taken a turn for the better and Amira could only thank her lucky stars Jimmy had decided to waltz in. “Yes, I would like that very much. Someone’s gotta help me get through all those fries, right?” Her head tilted to the side, her smile growing warmer. “What’s going on with you?”
