The normal reaction to being followed would be to speed up and call a friend. Maybe some women would carry pepper spray, a false sense of security in a world dominated by monsters feigning humanity instilled in their hearts. This would be something horrible and terrifying they would tell their loved ones later if they didn’t end up on the next day’s paper, all slashed and violated and left for everyone to see.
Kailee wasn’t some woman. She was a hunter, raised by a woman who had no qualms with beating a lesson into her daughter, and she definitely had. Kailee turned quickly, her fingers curling instinctively to touch the gun holstered at hip level. Deep brown eyes narrowed at the figure in the dark.
