This is why I'm here—for kids like this one, who read the whole book aloud to me despite zero comprehension. When I asked her if she likes books, her face lit up. She said, "Give me a book." I told her no, that the books are here so all the people can come read them. She immediately said, "Nzasoma ejo"—"I will read tomorrow." *** To those of you who donated books, thank you. Most of these kids who show up at my house are from the poorer families in the village. They don't have a single book in their homes.
