Homestead Brooklyn is officially 15 mos old this month. When launching a new passion project, you never know where it’s going to lead, but I’m so thrilled something so close to my heart— something so true to my native passion has flourished and I can spend time on it more fully. * * Living in NYC makes it inarguably challenging to connect w/ Nature—and it’s very essence ultimately gives you a bout of workaholism (“if ya make it in NYC—you can make it anywhere,” as the saying goes). As such, it’s equally challenging to find the time to reflect, but that’s precisely what I did this past (sleepless) night as Homestead Brooklyn turned 1 year and 3 months. * * As such, here’s some of what Homestead Brooklyn—and we—as a community, have accomplished together, which is to say—so. very. exciting. * * - Over $5,500 raised for local community greening projects - Over $39,000 raised for international conservation projects - Over 120 hours spent last year working in the garden outdoors - 4 volunteer days organized with over 100 combined community members, including garden repair and clean-up; rain garden build; chicken coop and chicken garden build - 2 Community Plant Swaps with over 200 people in attendance and ~ 600 plants traded - Partnerships w/ 25 different brands/companies/charities/organizations - 4 online Gardening Giveaways - 24 planting workshops / talks given to ~ 565 folks - Over 120k wonderful planty people who opt in / subscribe across social media and email - 66 Plant One On Me @youtube videos produced + 6 additional “bonus” videos - Over 2.5MM @youtube views - 90+ blog posts researched, produced and written on homesteadbrooklyn.com - A successful @kickstarter and @indiegogo for How to Make A Plant Love You, an online Houseplant Masterclass - Upcoming book for How To Make A Plant Love You: Cultivating Your Personal Green Space - Work w/ an amazing crew of people on a new awesome plant product that will launch within the next few weeks to the market. And MOST importantly—countless people who have been inspired across the world to not only bring green into their lives—but in the lives of others. #spreadthegreen Ph: @brakethrough_media (at Williamsburg, Brooklyn)
