Spring has sprung. Well, not that you’d know it in London today – but still! Pictured: “New York City, Easter Sunday 1964” by the great street photographer Joel Meyerowitz from his book Spring Flowers. As Meyerowitz recalled to The Guardian in 2021: “Every Easter Sunday there is a parade on Fifth Avenue in New York. They close the street to traffic, and people come out wearing fantastic hats and outfits. It’s like a fashion show lasting for three hours after Sunday mass. I saw this sweetly innocent woman with a fantastic hat that she made herself. The coda to this story is that her son, now a well-known photographer in California, called me a few years ago to say: “Joel, that’s my mother.” I was so happy to finally find out who she was so I could send her a print.”

Today is the first of February, and technically it is still Winter. We are due snow this weekend. Overall, however, our temps have been mild for Winter, and I found signs that the Scilla think it is Spring! They aren’t the only ones....
This hat. I think it suits me, yes?
Good, glad you agree.
