Mr Myers is back again with a rare find and by chance and interesting and a rather good one in 2014's Spring. Not necessarily a horror, but more of a romantic indie horror story, it has close concepts that remind me of HP lovecraft and aspects of John Carpenter and other various films that regards the physical transformations and combining reality to other worldly concepts. The premise shows an aimless young man (Lou Taylor Pucci) takes an impromptu trip to Italy and becomes involved with an alluring genetics student (Nadia Hilker) however we soon learns she harbors a transformative secret. With Genre elements swirl around them in part fantasy and part science fiction but at the very core of the film is something more complex, effective and doesn't fall into that trap of cliché and horror, but becomes engaging with great performances from both its cast members and wondering of the eventuality. However there are a few corny dialogue sequences but in a sense it's makes it more believable. Special effects are quite good with lots of practical effects for the old purists like myself and some very subtle CGI thrown in for good measure. Overall a very good indie film with very few minor flaws that should not hurt your enjoyment in the slightest. Unconventional and quirky. 'Spring' is the feel-good horror to please gore-hounds and doe-eyed romantics alike.
