Many cultures around the world celebrate the spring equinox as a time of new beginnings. With the Final Fantasy 7 remake just around the corner, we’d like to invite you to join us in celebrating the first day of spring and hopefully a new beginning for the cloti fandom with our #SpringAwakening2019 event.

Prompts! Each day of #SpringAwakening2019 will have multiple unique prompts that fans can interpret using gifsets, graphics/edits, fanfic, fanart, fanvids, headcanons, meta/analysis, playlists, or any other original content! Remember that our themes are just suggestions to get the creative juices flowing. We welcome anything you’d like to share!

Spring Awakening

Written sort of for ‘Pastels’ and then kind of turned into ‘New Beginnings’

Tifa could not help the groan when her alarm sounded. Even when waking up so early was her idea. Joints took some effort to get moving and not feel so stiff. Deep fog in her brain; some coffee would help with that. She stretched with care and slipped out of bed, padding to the bathroom in her slippers. Even so early in the morning, the sky outside was blue, the sun peeking over the horizon. Perfect timing.

Daily routines played out like so many times before. Washing, brushing her teeth. Down to the kitchen, one hand sliding along the bannister rail with each step down. A pause at the bottom, frustration at the effects of time on her. A deep breath. Better. She felt better. Not that old anyway. She drew herself up. “I feel fine.” A few little errands to complete in the kitchen first. Thermos filled with coffee – and another pause to sip at an immediate caffeine boost to ward off the wooly feel in her brain. Sandwich filling, butter, bread; sandwiched formed with practiced ease. Selection of fruit, a few other not so healthy but tasty extras and her picnic basket was complete. She put her art supplies on top and wrapped her scarf around her neck. With her easel and canvas under one arm she set out. People moving in the streets even so early in the day. Trucks with deliveries and idling motors, messengers and workers hurrying along the streets. A far cry from the bustle of midday, but still so many. She smiled and waved to those she recognised, heading out onto the main streets. Traffic grew heavier, the roar of cars and lorries, the more distant swish of higher velocity vehicles on the distant freeway. Nothing but a few wisps of white clouds high in the sky, the sun tinting everything yellow. Behind her now and no longer catching her gaze. Tifa walked on, following the main road out towards the edge of the city. Fewer people out this far, not so much need to be awake and active so early. Peaceful. Paved footpaths gave way to grasslands, fresher, greener growths long since overwhelming and hiding the desiccated plants once found here. The landscape around her brightened still further. A pause at the bottom of a small hill. Once she would have run up the slope without another thought. Once she would have strolled up it. Now she needed to gather herself. Inevitable perhaps, but still frustrating. Muscles in her legs and ankles took a while to begin protesting; for a while she believed that this little expedition would be easy. No such luck. Tifa panted when she crested the hill, heart racing and a faint tracery of sweat on her forehead. The air remained cool, but now she was too hot. The scarf discarded, she set up the easel and her canvas, looking back towards the sun. Towards what remained of Midgar. In intervening years, the city had collapsed further, long overdue maintenance pulling down vast sections of the once suspended upper plates. Perilous to consider venturing within the city limits for any reason. Difficult to stop given the sheer length of the circumference. Not somewhere she wanted to go back. Or perhaps one day. There were still places within the city with relevance and an appeal. For today she was content to stare and sketch, rendering the ever-greening Midgar onto her canvas. The growths now wrapping the plate supports, that climbed to vast heights over the central spire of the Shinra building, the immense flower beds clustered wherever the sun touched perhaps should not have been a surprise, though many were amazed that the city where nothing grew became the epicentre for a new burst of life from within the Planet. There was no confirmation, but Tifa was sure there were two likely sources for the plant-life. A thought always capable of making her smile. Tifa took her time, sketching what remained of the Sister Ray, the fallen barrel connected to the body via massed lengths of creeper. Tendrils of greenery, threaded with flowers spilled out over the plate edges and hung down, shading the lower regions of Midgar where reports indicated a carpet of smaller plants had taken root. The sun rose, the changes in light picking out more detail, more colour within the city. She sipped at her coffee until the distant roar of a motorbike sounded. Another smile. Not here merely for the view or to paint. He was arriving home today after too long. Tifa completed her brush-strokes and unfolded the blanket. The bike halted beside her once the contents of the basket were laid out. Cloud Strife – forever twenty-one – smile at her and settled onto the blanket beside her.

Spring Awakening 2019 - Renewal 

I’ve decided to write a scenario of what could have happened a few days after the Bahamut fight. A lot of fluff because I always envision Tifa and Cloud’s relationship to be in this way! And I’ve inserted one of Hot Road’s OST in this because I’ve used it the entire time I’ve written this and I want people to get the feel too ;) (But in all seriousness, please watch Hot Road and love the OSTs as much as I do!)

Hope and Happiness

The pink and white checkered drapes of Marlene and Denzel’s bedroom have slightly parted from the small window it was covering, giving way for the sun’s rays to penetrate through; a sign of another morning to wake up to. With the brightness of the room intensified, Tifa who had fallen asleep beside Marlene have been awakened. Instead of leaving the bed immediately, she chose to sit and pause, revelling over what her eyes could witness. Marlene was smiling in her sleep, having finally met Barret a few days ago and knowing that he is finally home. Meanwhile, Denzel was peacefully asleep… with geostigma no longer covering his forehead and no more pain to bear. It was as though all the worries they had been carrying on their shoulders for the past few years had been lifted – or they were never there to begin with.

Tifa felt her heart bloom – it was a beautiful morning to get up to. She would then somewhat changed her daily routine to make the most out of the feeling of alacrity. Instead of beginning her day with cleaning the Seventh Heaven bar, she chose to soak in a bubble bath – something she hardly did, out of fear that it would escalate the water bills. As she bathed, something else was noticeably different – the odour of the liquid soap. A whiff of tangerine oozed out of the bath water and its steams; an odour Barret – and Cloud would prefer, over Tifa, Marlene and Denzel’s vanilla. Five, instead of three small towels now hung on the steel bar close to the door. They were different than she was used to, but it made her smile almost to the point of tears.

When she finished, she took her time to towel-dry her hair before finally coming down to inspect the bar. To her pleasant surprise, it has been washed and scrubbed – she knew from the smell of the floor detergent. Cloud was hovering over the sink, washing some glasses and mugs left uncleaned after last night’s celebration.

Sensing her presence, he glanced at her and smiled as he asked, “Coffee?”

Tifa nodded, and watched as Cloud poured some litres of coffee from the percolator into two porcelain cups– one for her, and one for him. Tifa settled onto one of the stools at the bar counter and took a few sips from her cup. Cloud remained standing as he had his.

“I got them from Costa Del Sol,” Cloud said, in between his sips.

“You did?”

“Yeah, I know you like them.”

Tifa smiled. Indeed, she does. Ever since their last visit at Costa Del Sol, Tifa could not seem to get over the strong coffee she had at the inn! The rest of the AVALANCHE group had to hear her rant about craving for it once in a while.

“Thanks…” she told Cloud, sheepishly.

Then she looked up to him, and saw that he was already staring at her – albeit still drinking his coffee. It made her chuckle a little.

Confused, Cloud probed, “What is it?”

Tifa shook her head. “Nothing…”

They exchanged glances with one another once again, for a period of time, in silence… until they broke into giggles.

When they finished their coffee, Tifa decided to help Cloud with the washing. She placed her cup into the sink and was ready to begin what she was supposed to do.

But Cloud’s presence beside her made her pause. She took a step back and stared at him. He realized a couple of seconds late, and turned to look at her to find out what was going on.

She was pursing her lips, seemingly holding back her tears.

Tifa was still trying to process… that he was really there.

And Cloud knew what was running around in her head. Thinking that it would help her understand… he leaned his forehead against hers.

“You’re here,” she whispered.

He nodded. “Yeah, and I’ll always be, from now on.”

He then gently nudged his nose against hers, and heard her chuckle in response.

Everything felt right, and Cloud thought it was the best time to give her something more for further comfort… so he kissed her. Soft and kind – and their first time. He smiled coyly when he realized what he had done… but Tifa’s beam calmed him; she wanted it as much as he did.

This is where they were meant to be – a renewed sense of hope for more happiness.

“This is where it starts. A new …” He paused, looking for the right words. “A new life,” he finally said. “I’m going to keep on living. I think it’d be wrong to do anything else, after all that’s happened.”

“Yeah, I guess you’re right.”

“When I think of how many times I’ve told myself that, though, it makes me laugh.”

“What do you mean?”

“Cause I always screwed it up.”

“That’s not funny.”

“But this time … I think it’ll be ok.” He thought for a bit before adding, “Because this time I have you.”
