Spring break was lit
Tell me, what else could possibly go wrong?
As we took on Myrtle Beach for Spring Break 2k15, we never thought that this trip could go as awry as it did. Hey, for our first Spring Break we did pretty well for ourselves. I mean at least we can say we made it back in one piece, right?
You really don't believe me that we could have managed to screw up a trip that badly? We compiled a list of absolutely everything that went wrong. So here is our list on how NOT to Spring Break...
Day 1:
1. Erin was late = whole squad late
2. 80 Concord Road doesn't exist. Where's Lena's house?
3. Flight was delayed an hour
4. McKenzie doesn't even recognize her own friends in the airport
5. Erin gets sick in the supermarket
6. Bojangles is closed
Day 2:
7. North Myrtle Beach? Is that a separate town from Myrtle Beach?
8. Stranded at McDonald's, looking homeless
9. McKenzie gets sick at the hotel and is in bed all day
10. Bed bug epidemic
11. Because why would Barefoot Landing be open?
12. Two people's ID's get snapped in half
13. Erica then loses her ID in the club
14. McKenzie could very well be dead at home...aka she's not answering the phone
15. Angela (the hotel owner) is a sassy bitch
Day 3:
16. We over slept on the nicest beach day
17. Why wouldn't you take an interview drunk?
18. Get to the club and McKenzie doesn't have an ID
19. We lost McKenzie
Day 4:
20. No one dressed for the bitter cold on the Boardwalk
Day 5:
21. Rain. All. Day.
22. Snow in New York? Let's get an earlier flight!
23. Our new flight gets cancelled, our old flight is still on.
24. We can't get on a flight until Monday...
Day 6:
25. Road Trip from Myrtle Beach to Long Island
26. Cars and snow don't mix well
27. Erin can't park the car at the drop off site
But, nonetheless we did have an amazing time. I also couldn't imagine spending a week with anyone else other than my best friends. However, next time I'm planning the trip!
El Calafate
Our first day in El Calafate wasn’t actually in El Calafate. We stayed a hostel the night before, but got up at 5:00 am to go on a tour of Torres Del Paine (a huge national park known for its insane views and 4 and 7 day hikes). Although we weren’t doing the W Trek or O Trek, we wanted to see the national park and picked a beautiful day to do it. After a few (more) hours on the bus, we stopped throughout the park, checking out the beautiful mountains, lakes and wildlife (namely: guanaco). We were able to do a mini-“hike,” but it was so windy, Sarah and I almost blew away!
Our second day in El Calafate was equally as beautiful because we went to the Glacier National Park (two in two days!) and saw the Perito Moreno Glacier, one of the largest glaciers in the region. We went out on a boat to see the glacier, and then walked along the ways along the sides of it. It was massive and seemed to go on forever and the sound of the falling ice into the lake was surreal; it sounded like a clap of thunder every time a piece fell off. When we got back, we went to an amazing place for dinner (Pura Vida Resto Bar), and the best thing we ate was pumpkin stew, with meat and assorted vegetables, served in a pumpkin bowl! It was epic.
Our third and final day in El Calafate (and on Spring Break) was more relaxed. We woke up, explored the town’s cute shops and had lunch. Then Sarah and I went to the Glaciarium, a museum a little ways out of town all about the glaciers. The coolest thing they have is an Ice Bar, which serves drinks in sub-zero temperatures, from glasses made of ice from glaciers. It was an awesome way to end the trip! When we got back to the hostel, we waited and hopped on our plane home, with no problems or cancellations.
Overall, it was the most exciting, surprising, and beautiful trips of my short life so far. I had a blast with the people I travelled with and met on the way, and to travel through such beautiful countries reminds me of what an incredible opportunity I have to live and study here. I can’t wait to return, I’m comin’ back for ya (both, Patagonia and Chile)!
