Time for me to never go to Springlicious again.
So every year, Niagara Falls holds a 'food festival' in June. Basically, there are a bunch of food trucks and a few vendors who come to Queen street for the weekend. We always go down there, bring the dog and walk around for a bit and get something to eat: it's a fun, family event.
This year, however, was a piece of shit. We just got kicked off of Queen street because my mom had her dog with her. Apparently you can't have a dog on Queen street while the "festival" (aka a couple of food trucks) is going on. Keep in mind that this is a public, residential street: people fucking live there. People do their every-day banking, shopping, living down there: it's not an exclusive place, it's a residential neighborhood where people actually live.
They basically told people who live on Queen street that they have to keep their pets locked up inside for a whole weekend, because they can't have an animal outside on their own street. And anyone who shops or goes down their with their pets have to just stay away from downtown for the weekend.
In addition, My 40-year old mother also was stopped by security Friday so they could search her bag (a cute little pink Coach purse) for drugs and alcohol. Once again, it's not like we were entering some private area or event: we just wanted to walk down a public street, and were treated like potential criminals. We may have just needed to go to the bank, or grab bread from the bakery, or do something else that people do daily on Queen street, and we got bumped around by security. Brings up the question: can people who live on Queen street not shop at LCBO for the weekend either, because they can't bring alcohol back to their own apartments, since it's not allowed on Queen street?
If they want an event with strict restrictions and security like this, and with no pets allowed, they need to hold it in a private area, or at least a park or something. Not on a street where people live, in a residential neighborhood. It's supposed to be an event for locals, and all it has done is piss off the locals.
