last friday gary and i took a quick lunch and headed out to springside for a quick nature walk. short on time, we couldn't explore much but hopefully we'll go back soon. in the meantime, i'll keep up with park happenings via the springside national historic landmark's fb page.
pictured above is a baldcypress, i know because it was labeled as such :). it's hard to say whether it is native and indigenous but it is the larval host to the baldcypress sphinx, although we probably won't see one up here. the baldcypress is a deciduous conifer, dropping its needles (hence the named 'bald') after they turn from green in the spring and summer to cinnamon red/terra cotta in the fall.
