010 // Tech Demo No.0(ii): “Lively Leaves” ..and maybe this grass is a little intimidating.
You have by now already seen the SpriteLite object, and as proud as I am of it, I wonder if having it move like that-- constantly and without any particular rhythm-- is not somewhat disconcerting. I feel as though having the grass move obliges me to do something with the leaves on the trees, too. Which I would like to do (and, as it happens, now have a spritelike class to do it with), but may represent a degree of sophistication that only distracts from the whole. I expect that the degree activity is more important here than whether or not they are animated at all...
Anyway, my situation is this: does mysteriously and eternally animated tall grass make the scene seem strange and haunted, or does it give a bit of life to an otherwise motionless field?
I have an element in the SpriteLite module that allows me to have them all animate in a wave, as though blown by a gust of wind, and I expect that this third way will look the best. For now though, I wonder which of these two options-- eerily and perhaps excessively alive or dead static-- is the less distracting one.
I can also revise the liveliness of the grass with a few keystrokes, so there is that, as well. It is not like the delay between frame changes is difficult to adjust..
Once I have the breezy gust machine working, I will post that option and we shall see what is what~
