My sweet old man #Spudnik was out for some cuddles last night. He is such a good and amazing boy and will be 2yrs old in 2wks. As you can see, he is definitely showing his age, poor gent. I think he had a minor stroke as he seems to favour one side (right side). He's been having some gunky eye issues especially on the left eye you can see in the photo. I've been cleaning it and doing drops which he hates. I do think he's blind and perhaps is a bit confused in old age as he often confuses my finger for snacks. The short lifespans of these beautiful animals is something that really adds up. A lot of people who get into hamster breeding often are out of it just as quickly. It is emotionally draining, and Hamdad jokes (accurately) that you're essentially addicted to grief. I've found ways to cope and manage my grief, but some deaths get you more than others. Spuddy's will be that for me. Otherwise everyone here is doing okay. I downgraded Socks to a hospital bin as she's still hamstering albeit not as well as usual. Eggy moved out from the girls and into her old condo and has been having a blast. Babies begin going home this week, and I'll be sending Meri home with Stroopy to @mr.saddlebagshams. Since I have Sunny and she's here to lose some weight and be bred to Meow, it made sense to send Meri to MSB for now. I'm planning to send her pregnant to Sandals (🤞) but if not I've given my blessing to try her to a male at MSB as her last chance. If she still doesn't get pregnant I'll need to retire her. Nebby and Piddles are in similar spots so we will see. I feel at a standstill waiting for these ladies to get pregnant which means delaying my younger girls. It just perpetuates the cycle then, so I'm trying to do both. It's exhausting admittedly. Hamdad and I enjoyed our Superb Owl snacks but my digestive system has not.
