Spuno (issue #2) YEAR: 1980 CREATED BY: Mark, Marcus and various hangers on LOCATION: Bath SIZE: A4 WHAT'S INSIDE.... This fanzine's name was actually the logo of music paper Sounds (minus the initial "S") turned upside down (other fanzines like Next Monday's Exciting and New Musical Excess ripped off the NME's logo just as blatantly). The subtitle "Dressing Gown News" was the name of a song by local band Identity Crisis. The best bits of the second issue of Spuno are live reviews of Siouxsie and the Banshees and The Cramps. Gigs by a few other bands mainly get a slagging - The Angelic Upstarts are described as "neanderthal man discovered in Bath", The Bodysnatchers were responsible for "a truly forgettable evening" and on the back cover a Punishment Of Luxury concert at the University Of Bath is described as one of the "great non-events of our time". The wackily named Nat Spiss also wasn't too impressed by Elvis Costello, but The Cure did manage to win over somebody called Eric Normal.... The zine is generally written with a lot of enthusiasm and wit. Page 2 features a story about a punk with green hair that was quite a well known joke at the time. There's also a local songs chart and an all time chart, both of which were apparently voted for by the readers and both of which feature local band Animals & Men at number one (they are also interviewed at length inside). The rest of the zine is full of cartoons, local news (like the fact that a band called The Era had split up and some of them joined another band called Genetic Postman), record reviews, a crossword, a couple of fanzine reviews (Vague and Common Knowledge), the Spuno guide to pogoing and numerous examples of the authors taking the piss out of themselves, their mates and their readers....
