Quick Tip on Filling Out Your Individual Sounds
To fill out your sound on a lead/bass/sample, etc. (especially if it's filtered, I've found this helps) use the Chord MIDI effect in Ableton and use two of the pitch to stretch half an octave above and below the original root note.ย

Listen to more lectures & talks.
I personally listen to too much music. Some of it is quality but much of it is also garbage but the point is, by consuming so much at such a rapidly fleeting pace, my ears and musical sensibility can become dull.
Think about it:ย
Listening to music when I wake up, listening on my way to work and class, listening to music at work and trying to end my day by listening to my own music that I'm working on.ย
So, I am going to make an effort to shorten my musical intake so that I appreciate when I do and so that my ears would have to suffer the sound barrage I subject them to all day.
I can easily enjoy the sounds the world has to offer when I commute, these can even be highly inspirational, my Tiga remix from last winter and much of the tracks I'm currently finishing up are rather industrial so city sounds give me ideas do sounds to try and recreate. And when I'm not actively listening to music but mindlessly wandering/traveling, that's when most of my musical ideas come to me as I'm humming and my thinking is clear/unobstructed.ย
So, my goals & aid are set on that front however I had to think about the work situation. If I'm reading or studying, I usually listen to jazz. (Thus my lists posts recently) It's a great excuse for me to discover more of the genre and since jazz is typically reserved for studying, it's refreshing to hear when I begin to study. I'd like other choices that aren't as...musical and friendly to my ears but anything involving speaking doesn't work, I can't read AND listen at the same time. Just like I can't text and walk at the same time.ย
However with working, depending on the task, I'm golden. And when work gets long, I do need something to keep me sharp and focused. By midday, without a lunch break, too? Oh, I'm zoning out hard. Music can't even help most times since the work may not be very active and the music becomes hypnotizing. Yesterday, what I did after stumbling across the video in my drafts for B&B was start up the Richie Hawtin RBMA lecture. And wow, the conversation was engaging so I perked up and became attentive. Much like my advocacy of audiobooks on long drives, I can see why this works. Human voices are obviously not usually very intrusive or dynamic with lectures and if the topic is of interest, of course you're going to listen. And by the end, I had learned a few things too along with finishing up my project for the day. So, I then merrily went home and was able to work on music with a fresh set of ears. And of course, there's a number of lectures across the web so it's easy to consume and feel like I'm learning. So, I feel like this is a good way to efficiently spend my time. I can learn and keep my brain active while getting done necessary tasks at work and also preserved my moneymakers, the ears. ย
So, with all that said typed, do you have have alternative methods of educational/entertainment audio engagement that could work well for. activities such as work, working out, etc?
