Throughout the years, Nell had stuck by her story - that there were things in Hill House that nobody could explain but she knew she experienced. If the Bent Neck Lady who hovered over her while she slept wasn't the worst of it (which it was), then it was other things that never made clear sense. All of them experienced something, but they chose to deny it, and by doing that, they all inadvertently pushed her awake. Luke was the only one left who hadn't . . . but he'd also picked drugs over her.
She scratched the back of her neck anxiously, their conversation having been pleasant but taking a turn. It was better to rip the band-aid off. ❝ Luke, you . . . you believe me, right? All the stuff that happened to us when we were kids. You believe it happened, too, right? Things happened to you, too, right? ❞
