Tom Holland and Will Smith to star in Fox feature based on animated short Pigeon: Impossible
The newest Spider-Man will team up with the Fresh Prince to voice the lead characters on the just-announced project, called Spies in Disguise. Fox Animation and Blue Sky Studios will produce, with Nick Bruno (animator, Peanuts Movie) and Troy Quane (storyboard artist, Enchanted, Ferdinand) at the helm as co-directors.
Holland takes over as the main character, Walter Beckett, from the original 2009 short, which won many awards on the international festival circuit. The Hollywood Reporter describes Walter as “a great mind but perhaps not a great socializer ... the scientific genius who invents the gadgets Lance uses on his missions.”
Will Smith will lend his talents as Lance Sterling, “the world’s most awesome spy,” and a clear candidate for conflict in this “odd-couple comedy.”
The film hits theaters on January 18, 2019 — before Fox Animation’s other recently announced film, Bob’s Burgers.
Fox and Blue Sky’s next feature film is this year, with the December 15th release of Ferdinand, starring John Cena. Watch the Ferdinand trailer here.
