Porsche mechanic Rolf Wütherich and Jimmy, heading for races in Salinas in Little Bastard from sixty years ago today. Jimmy was killed in a crash outside Cholame, Californa at approximately this time (5:15pm PST GMT -8). He was twenty-four years old.
The setting sun obscured the vision of the driver of the other vehicle in the crash, a 1950 Ford Tudor, and Jimmy was driving around 80mph (50 km/h).
Rolf Wütherich was thrown clear of the car and survived with jaw and hip fractures. He died in a car accident in his native Germany in 1981, age 53.
