Considering that the Classic Spyro games has a more modern setting and modern technologies than what TLOS does, would it make more sense to place the classic games after TLOS in the timeline rather than before?
Really, it's a matter of perspective! I think both ways work and my points can support the other direction too.
But I like the idea that the world grew culturally, until their own search for knowledge destroyed them, creating people like Malefor.
Here's my main points:
Renaissance:
The first game takes place long after the dragons had been exiled from their original homelands, and to me, it looks like they're in the middle of a cultural renaissance!
We see tons of races and cultures, but later, they're erased, with only a few remaining.
Magic is fading:
A lot of the Spyro world seems to depend on dragon magic or aether, with the third game claiming that the magic left WITH them when they were forced to leave by the sorceress, 1000 years ago. Mana exists in nature itself, but withour the dragons around, it can't be harvested.
Even her portals and technology is failing. By TLOS, there is not much magic, and the lands have no portals. There IS however, establishes relations between races. Moles and dragons.
The dragons taught others how to use their magic, harness the gems and even gave access to their vast knowledge of magic-- creating both friends and enemies in the process. Magic staffs and charms artificially harness this power.
As they explore their magic, we get dark worlds like the Dreamweaver's nightmare worlds. (connected to the "dark realm"? Maybe even the "Well of Souls"?)
The first hatched eggs:
The third game reveals that dragons hatch in the year of the dragon. Spyro is the only young dragon, therefore magic has only JUST become strong enough on this year, to offer/hatch the eggs, even though we see eggs in the first game.
It's something to note: Magic is stronger back then, and more purple dragons run about... but later, purple becomes very rare, as magic dwindles.
Dragons are a dying race:
With everyone using (or harvesting) magic, it can't be replaced as fast as it's getting used. If magic is low, eggs won't appear or hatch and crucially, we start seeing female dragons being born to counteract this. They have become mortal...
Dragons start using staffs and lose aether magic, instead focusing on "elements". Only elders are allowed to learn aether magic because it's too dangerous, and by "Shadow Legecy" it's revealed the elder's knew of the Shadow realm for a long time and hid it, presumably it's connected to the Well of Souls or maybe nether (dark aether).
When ignitus mentions the year of the dragon, it can be assumed this is when magic is strongest, and thus, the eggs will hatch this year. There are so few dragons left, and presumably even less females, (likely a choice from malefor to stunt the population completely) that this clutch is literally their last chance.
Regarding the end of the world:
I like the idea that Spyro uses his "time power" to literally reset the timeline, pushing us back to the first game's timeline. It's also cool because the remake of the games kinda adds to the story haha.
Alternatively, though, you could have it start at Skylanders, which looks similar to what DOTD looks like at the end...but these games are officially not connected to Spyro, so non of the lore works lol. Maybe their kids find a portal and help the skylanders or something idk.
Gnorc Gnexus, also known as Gnasty's World, is the sixth and final homeworld in Spyro the Dragon. It is the dragons' unwanted world; a dump, and was therefore, the new home of the banished Gnasty Gnorc.
The homeworld is a circular metal island with an arm branching out for Hak the Balloonist. Each portal except for Gnorc Cove's portal is inside a giant dragon head
Every dragon found in Gnasty's World, including those in its realms, has been freed before, having attempted to confront Gnasty Gnorc, but wound up getting trapped in crystal again.
This realm and its worlds are strikingly different from the rest of the realms. All of the dragon realms before this relied mostly on magic (a partial exception is the Beast Makers home, which had fully realized electricity, although the electricity itself was supplied by the Gnorcs) and all of the enemies fought with types of medieval, natural or out of date weaponry. Gnasty's World is a more technologically advanced realm, featuring the most metal in any realm, TNT, harbors, ships, machine guns, commandos, wrenches, lighthouses and oil platforms.
The home of the most magically-inclined dragon species is a network of self-constructed plains and meadows connected by tall mountains tips and covered in frost and ice. The Magic Crafters world is littered with icy steps, frosted peaks, supercharge ramps, moving platforms, and alpine trees of all sizes. Pools of crystal-clear water dot each area, and the caves built into the mountains are smooth and decorated with all sorts of pretty patterns. Gems can be seen here or there, but the Magic Crafter dragons never see too fit to flaunt their wealth. The abyss below is a misty, never-ending fall that would spell death to any dragon, but no fear! The fairies here don’t mind catching you and lifting you to safety
Residents
The dragons who live here are also called Magic Crafters. They are shy creatures, and aren't good with strangers, liking to stay confined to their top-most peaks to work on their sorcery. Because of this fascination with magic, they have turned their world into Albert Einstein’s worst nightmare: the laws of physics are regularly broken, as well as a few laws not yet known. They’re the ones to make the potions and magic spells of the dragons. Magic Crafters, above all else, like to use brains over brawn, and are usually the first to come up with a witty comeback. In the end, these are a few dragons you don’t want to mess with!
A notable feature of the Magic Crafters is that most of them speak in an accent that thrills the Rs in the words they speak with. The leader of the Magic Crafter dragons is Cosmos, as he is usually the first dragon to be freed when Spyro enters the homeworld and welcomes his arrival, as well as giving him the main objectives.

The portals of this realm seem to be made from the mountain's stone, and are short and wide, the top portion coming up to a point, and a jewel right below the point
