What THE HECK is that weird cat thing and can I know more
IT’S TIME FOR ANOTHER BLOOM LORE DUMP POST!!! YIPPEE!!!
that’s a kincat! Specifically, her name is 1.9-JC! Kincats are some of the more civilized creatures in the world of BLOOM, and they live in homes on the side of Mount .3!
Firstly, anatomy!
(Image one shows no internal anatomy, image two shows all internal anatomy, and image three shows some of the bits that are covered up in the second image.)
Red: ears (instead of having wide openings for hearing, kincats possess thin skin on their ears with slits on the side.)
green: brain (it’s just a brain idk what to say)
yellow: lungs (also function as vocal organs. Each lung can produce a different sound, allowing the kincat to harmonise with itself. This is important, as song is the main way kincats attract mates.)
light blue: digestive system (the kincat’s mouth is reserved for vocalising, while a special hole above the kincat’s chest leads to their stomach.)
pink: heart (idk what to say…)
dark blue: claw muscles (a kincat’s claw muscles lock in place under tension to sheathe the kincat’s claws, allowing the claws to spring out at a moment’s notice.)
cyan: claws (the claws)
purple: misc. muscles (it’s just muscles. Idk.)
black: holes (holes!!!)
Kincats have a system of currency which they share with the Citadel, trading shiny objects for goods. Basically, the shinier an object the more valuable it is. Of course, having currency also means there are some extra wealthy kincats that live closer to the top of Mount .3. Primarily, the JC family.
While the average kincat’s life is quite peaceful and happy, they also live riiight next to the bamboo forest (which is also where they go to gather resources like wood and paper), where creatures called stalks reside. Stalks are parasitic, relying on kincats to survive after hatching. They hunt by ambushing and coiling around kincats, burrowing into them and leaving the kincat unconscious while the stalk sets up in their body. After this, the kincat is now classified as a kisnalk and a variety of changes occur in their body.
The kincat’s eyes will combine into one.
the kincat’s voice will be strained for a while after the transformation, but it should recover within one large ripple.
the kincat’s ears will be elongated, now housing the stalk’s eyes.
The kincat will have a much faster metabolism, also needing to eat more to sustain themself.
the kincat will be unable to reproduce.
and here are images to better illustrate it :)
Next up, the terrible things they’ve done!
Soon after the kincats began working with the bugs of the Citadel on eachother’s projects, the kincats realised that, with the help of the bugs, they might be able to do something about how much of the kincat population was made up of kisnalks. Eventually, they came up with the (absolutely terrible) idea of breeding a species unable to be harmed by stalks until the species was able to do all the work in the bamboo forest for the kincats! Surely this will have no moral implications. Right?
Soon, the species selected to become the kincat’s workers was selected: The squals.
Squals were already living in the bamboo forest, so breeding them to be able to cut down bamboo and stuff shouldn’t be too hard. At least that’s what they thought before their experiments actually began.
the kincats and the bugs soon constructed a two massive towers in the sea between their homes, with one tower being where the experiments would take place and the other tower being for any squals that had traits that would cause a worse result when breeding. By the end of their experiments, they had successfully caused true squals to go completely extinct.
but they had gotten their prize! The least coloihrful bird ever created, with genetic mutations so common there’s at least five different subspecies already.
in modern times, they just found out how to automate their gathering of resources, so squals simply live alongside kincats or completely separated from them instead of working for them. But don’t worry. They get their karma eventually.
Now, back to kincats! All that’s left is some fun facts :)
Eyelashes are inherited from a kincat’s parents.
Kincats do not have noses. All breathing is done through the mouth. Having two lungs means a kincat can breathe and talk at the same time though :)
