Mural 30 in the Square Tower of Cliff Palace (Mesa Verde, Colorado, 13th century).
Painted in red against a white wall, the geometric shapes are believed to portray the landscape. The red band at the base may represent the earth, and the lighter part of the wall the sky. The triangular peaks may be mountains on the horizon line that separates the earth and sky. Dotted lines between the “peaks” may represent cracks in the earth. The rectangle with jagged lines might relate to clouds, rain, or the sun and moon.
This mural is similar to other cliff dwelling murals, including those in the Spruce Tree House and Balcony House. It is found on the third floor of the Square Tower.
