Smooth Ride, Bumpy Road. This tricycle with square wheels can ride smoothly due to the particular shape of the surface it is riding on. ⠀ ⠀ The rounded shapes on the surface are known as inverted catenaries, and are not circular, nor parabolic. In fact, the catenary shape is naturally produced when something flexible is suspended at either end, and then bends naturally at the middle - like that of a rope, chain or even telephone wires. Square wheels are proof that humans cause their own problems even if there is already a solution. My calc professor is talking about then and has not once mentioned the existence of round wheels and their magical properties, like running on a flat road without bumping.
