#Repost @ska_telescope • • • As we approach the end of the year🗓️, the SKA's Infrastructure consortia are also wrapping up their design work after almost five years of effort👷👷‍♀️. So how does this engineering work impact the SKA's science goals🤔? We asked Prof. Naomi McClure-Griffiths, a member of the SKA's Science and Engineering Advisory Committee, to explain! 💬 "The infrastructure design is important for astronomers because ultimately the astronomers are the customers - it’s people like me who are going to be using the telescope," Naomi told us. "We have a number of goals for the science and some of those involve resolution - we want to be able to see as far as we can into the Universe at the highest detail, so the infrastructure needs to be able to supply power and fibre out to the furthest extremes of the array and get the signals back and be able to correlate them in reasonable times. All of the infrastructure is part of that." #Repost @ska_telescope • • • Science!🌌 A new paper published by one of our science working groups representing some 46 authors from 36 institutes 🌏 highlights the potential of the SKA to tackle key questions of cosmology, from dark matter to dark energy. ⬛️⚫️ . “We know the Universe is expanding at an accelerating rate, but we don’t yet understand why,” explains Prof. Richard Battye, co-chair of the working group from the University of Manchester. “One of the SKA's main science goals is to investigate this, by looking at the distribution of the most basic element, hydrogen, throughout the cosmos”. ⚛️ .
