It was another boring end to another boring day. The holidays were coming to an end. The new year was just hours away. Alejandra sat curled up on the couch, chin resting on a pillow. Fireworks were echoing in the distance; some kids were eager to get the show on and were amusing themselves with the boom-sparklies. "Matty," Ale sighed. Where had he disappeared to? Somewhere deep down she knew she missed him, but was too stubborn to ever admit it, even to herself. Ah, that boy had her wrapped around her fingers. . . Stop it! Ale shook her head furiously. No time to think about that! She threw the pillow across the couch and stood up. Time for some tamales.
