It was odd, watching them stand at his side, back set straight as a bord, their short brown hair pulled high in a small ponytail, the silver of their armor glinting in the sun that shone through the windows. The thick panels of fabric that hung from their left hip and down to their ankle was a long faded blue, stitched with pinstripe silver threads and tattered at one corner. Their gloved hands were long and slender, bony and rough behind the black fabric hiding them, many, many eyes blinking as they looked at you. Yes they were odd indeed, the eccentric knight of the seven lands, the messenger not yet shot down admits battles and feudes.
You stood as tall as you could, the sword on your hip holding intricate carvings that wove a tale of tales. The lord of corruptions words seemed to bleed together, your eyes wandering to the elegant tapestries hung from the wall, woven threads reaching from floor to ceiling. “Pay attention dear traveler” the words echoed in your head snapping you back to attention, the fog suddenly gone from your mind as Lucifer's words now rang clear. You turned your head to the inhuman knight, one of their eyes closing in a sort of wink. “Now traveler, you may return to where you were resting” the lord of corruption said with a sigh “ah- alright sir!” you chirped out, turning on your heel and walking out of the throne room.
The nights you spent at the palace were pleasant, odd dreams often holding you in their grasps, tho none of them seemed hostile they often caused you to awaken from your slumber. It was one such morning when you felt especially tired, walking sluggishly to the kitchens to grab something to eat, where you first met the odd knight.
You yawned and failed to rub the sleep from your eyes, grabbing an apple to eat. You turned around, only to be met with a pair of eyes staring back at you. They were bent at the waist, leaning forward to meet your gaze evenly “you seem tired dear traveler, have you not been sleeping properly?” they inquired, tilting their head slightly to the side “i've been waking up in the middle of the night, but dont worry im fine!” you said, a worried expression crossed the knights features “i'm so sorry! It's probably my fault, people often have odd dreams when in my presentence” they paused, standing up straight and extending their gloved hand to you “i'm sure that the nurses wing will have something to help you sleep better, won't you allow me to escort you there, dear traveler?” After a moment's pause you took their hand. It was warm, even throwing the black gloves their hand was warm, and large as they held your hand gently in theirs. They led you through corridors until they came to a large set of wooden doors, letting go of your hand they pushed open the doors. Several nurses turned their heads towards the two of you, one of them trotting over “ah, knight is there anything the matter” the nurse asked looking up at the blue eyed knight, “ah- yes, you see the dear traveler has been having trouble sleeping, do you perhaps have an elixir to help them with it?”
Yes that was your first encounter with the knight, at from that point you would see them far more often, they would tell you stories of old, tales of beasts long gone and slane and of lands were kings fell and kingdoms rose, there were many stories, all conveyed by dramatic hand gestures and funny voices . Many nights kept company by the knight, made of card games and playful banter falling hushed when other guards walked by. Which is why today you had a new plan.
You had slipped the letter in their room the night before, black envelope adorned with silver ink layed gently on their bedside table. An invitation to the training grounds for a friendly sparring match. Now you waited in the ward, sitting atop a hay bail as you counted the seconds, and as if on cue they stumbled around the corner, panting slightly as they stood before you, “i- hope- huff- im not late” they said, standing to attention, their metal armor gone now, the once silver bracers on their arms and legs replaced with well worn leather, the blue fabric still on their waist. “Alrighty dear traveler, lets useeeee~ these!” they exclaimed, holding up two wooden swords, tossing one to you, “sounds good!” grabbing the sword you got into position. They swung their sword and you blocked, the twack of the wood sounding off in the sunny day. You swung at their side and they blocked, pushing your sword back and stepping off a few paces to put distance between the two of you. Sing! block! swing! block! swing! Block! swing! Block! It went on and on as the two of you danced around one another- exchanging blows and laughing. They jumped onto a hail bail, pulling their best evil laugh, a smirk set on their face. “Give up now my dear traveler~ if you do i'll let you off easy” they said with a dramatic flair, light blush dusted your cheeks as you looked up at them, kicking the hay bail so they jumped off. “Well darling squid, I think you'll be the one to lose today~” you said with a smirk of your own. They blushed hard, pale skin bright red as they tried to chuckle at your little speech. “Oh are you sure, great hero (y/N), little pond hopper~” they cood back, taking a quick step forward and swinging their sword.
You fell back, breath knocked out of you and sword no longer in your hand. “What was that about winning my little pond hopper?” they asked with a teasing smile, long arms on either side of your head keeping you trapped. “I hate to leave but duty calls my love~” they said, leaning down and placing a soft kiss to your lips.
Too soon they jumped off, giving you a wink as they took long strides away, trying to calm their rushing heart.
