Is there anything that you wish you were told about ADHD when you began to come to terms with having it?
I’d already done a boatload of reading on it, but I think one of the biggest things that could have helped me was someone reminding me that progress (especially with ADHD) isn’t a straight line, and that it’s okay to have bad days.

I think for me getting the diagnosis was mostly just a huge relief. I started realizing that all the years of considering myself lazy and undisciplined were actually due to this thing in my brain, and not because I was a terrible person. I mostly figured that out myself, but I think everyone who struggles with feelings of inadequacy needs to hear that it isn’t just a matter of not trying hard enough or being good enough. That’s just how your brain works, and that’s okay too.
