Easily the best book I have read in recent times. In fact I finished reading it sometime last year and got back to it again. This is a deceptively simple but disconcerting modern tale of how acquisition of money makes relationships in a household and with the self convoluted, eventually changing the dynamics of people's engagement with one another. Vivek Shanbhag draws you in from the opening scene... . . . A note on the English translation: Srinath Perur makes the novel his own. The family scenes which are laced with local sarcasm and invectives, retain the palpable tension brimming underneath in English as well...making you uncomfortable as a reader. . . . I liked the cover so much that I bought both the hardback and paperback editions. Rightly hailed as a modern classic, this book is a must must read. 💓 . . . The eccentricity of the book is brilliant and I have experienced certain things akin to the household described. For me the title deems fit and this book indeed is a GHACHAR GHOCHAR.
