Whaleback steamer Frank Rockefeller prior to the 1930s in her original configuration as built in 1897 by McDougall’s American Steel Barge Company in Superior, Wisconsin. She was used in service up until 1969 when she ran aground in Lake Michigan and instead of repairing the aging vessel she was donated to the city of her birth. Since 1942 and to this day most people know her as the Meteor located at Barker's Island in Superior. Note the crewman from the engine room area sticking his head out of a hatch above the waterline of starboard quarter the hull.
