Shonda should seize her writer destiny and legacy!! Everybody loves the show (Oprah, Ellen..)This show is a perfect example of SEIZING Destinity with both hands and running with it. She should not be afraid of embracing Olitz and writing gutsy plots around them. Like Olivia would say Shonda: "Show them who you are." Seize your DESTINY!!
I posted this as a response on a post earlier, but felt that it needed its own post. I love Shonda Rhimes and I think she is a brilliant mind but we know brilliant minds are sometimes tortured ones which could explain why she is wrestling with the love shown for Olitz. When that many people catch on to a show it is because they like the story being told. Don't wrestle with the viewers coz you can still OWN your show and satisfy the audience at the same time, a delicate balance that can be achieved.. The viewers are not telling Shonda exactly how to write her show but merely giving her feedback that she should take in consideration because whether we like it or not, networks are concerned with bottom lines and this audience is one of the smartest I have witnessed. Shonda made it possible to show Olitz scenes that would not have been shown years ago because of how "hot" they were. She has clout and she can use it to push story lines that make the country and the world think, in my opinion. I am frustrated but still admire her genius and just wished she would stop fighting with her destiny, so to speak...Below is my earlier post...
"I am the only one who thinks that Shonda was not expecting the Tony-Kerry chemistry to be as nuclear ("hot" is a mild word for their chemistry lol) as it turned out? She did not have their story as the center of the show initially (it probably was only going to be an aspect of the show but not its core as it became) it seems to me. Then she only had 7 episodes for season 1 and banked on Olitz to get season 2 and then in season 2 tried to regain control of the show by trying to destroy Olitz but the viewers were already HOOKED as per reactions of fans to Kerry and Tony when accosted including the most famous Gladiators like Oprah who were sucked in to watch coz of Olitz. That Rose Garden scene is what launched Olitz because no one has ever heard a powerful man profess his love like that in any other show and to a woman of color too lol... First time I saw it, I said "gutsy writing!!" So if she wanted to not prop Olitz then she should not have written that scene. I believe that what happened is that when she wrote that scene, it did not sound in her head the way Tony & Kerry KILLED IT (which they have done for all of Olitz scenes). So the way it turned out messed up with her plans. Even though she made Fitz a murderous POTUS, people still rooted for him and Tony did an awesome as Admiral of the SS Olitz, to make sure the character was not irrevocably damaged by that action. We know Shonda wants to have high control over her stuff but this time it led her to become kind of erratic in trying to find ways to quell Olitz but kept failing at shutting it down because ABC saw fans' reactions and she knew she would not get season 3 without Olitz. Still she tried one last time in the last five minutes of this season finale but even now it will not work to shut down Olitz for season 3 coz the viewership will decrease. The more she tries to quell Olitz, the more the viewers root for them and that is "killing" her LOL.. She hates (I used the word intentionally) that Olitz stole her show ...LOL But that is life: things don't always turn out the way you plan them, but you have to accept the positive by-products of what your initial plan was instead of trying to spit on it (excuse my choice of word there, coz that is what in my opinion she is trying to do to Olitz). Embracing Olitz does not mean that she is is a less of a serious, gifted writer coz she can write awesome plots around Olitz and be celebrated her entire life and decades later as having written one of the gutsiest shows ever. This show will define her legacy more that Grey's and PP, and so if I were her, I would seize my writing destiny with both hands and run with it. So I say to her "Don't be afraid Shonda: writing Olitz and awesome plots around them is possible." Most people love it and now the world is catching on and Scandal is being bought left and right by international markets and why do you think, heh?? COZ OF OLITZ....End of story...Thanks for reading and sorry for the length...
