It was late, the sky dark and the only light source the spotty streetlamps. Jade was walking home from a shift at the bar, slightly drunk and overall unhappy at the prospect of having to deal with her mother when she got home.
The dark south side streets were never a real place of safety, and Jade tugged her jacket tighter around her. The brunette’s head whipped around at the sound of footsteps behind her, the darkness making it impossible to see who was behind her. Her heart thumped as she went over the list of possible people she’d pissed off. “Hello?”
