so the first time he actually saw her was at the bar. she was working and he was well on his way to drunk. he ordered a drink from her and she was all scowls and minimal words. rafe felt his chest tighten when she gave him the smallest of smiles as she handed his drink over , bc he thought holy shit she’s beautiful when she smiles. and then when he saw her in class the first day, he was too chicken to sit by her, so he sat across the aisle. he paid attention in class, obviously, but also noted her little mannerisms. the next week, he worked up the courage to sit with a seat in between them. the third week, he sat beside her, and that’s where the series starts!

He laughs lightly, and the sound feels like music to your ears. You fidget with your blanket; pulling it on and then taking it off while you squirm and wait for his answer. 

“I’d like to see you today.”

“Oh, really?” you tease, biting down on your pointer finger to try and prevent another unwanted laugh to escape. 

“Really,” he confirms, and you can tell he’s grinning, “Are you home?”

“Yeah,” you answer. 

“Alone?”

You pause and swallow, then repeat, “Yeah.”

“Fantastic,” he says, “Mind opening the door?”

He holds out his right arm, and you can see how he buttoned it down on the sleeve so that his tattoos would be concealed. You frown at that, dragging your eyes up to his.

“You covered them,” you pout.

“Have to,” he says quietly, “You’ll understand when you meet him.”

“Are you nervous?”

He just stares at you for a moment, as if he’s debating on how to answer that question. Then, his jaw hardens and he slowly shakes his head.

“It’s just a dinner,” he says, more to himself than you, “Nothing to be nervous about.”

“Hey,” you whisper, reaching up to hold his chin in between your thumb and pointer finger, “It’s going to be fine.”

A small smile forms on the corner of his lips, “I think I’ll just focus on what I’ll be doing when I bring you back here.”
