sunday’s ep was cute! i’m not fond of the “pokemon go” type catching frenzy for this show, and i don’t know how, from this episode onwards, they’re going to represent go catching every new kind of pokemon he comes across. it can become quite tiring to see. i much prefer the idea that trainers have a select team who they will cherish, bonding with them and putting effort into each one - fact that some of the pokemon will most likely be “more important” and given a chance to be characters while others are not, is something i guess i’ll have to see if i care for, or can ignore. but i liked that they showed where the pokemon are transferred and the shenanigans in their sleeping quarters :D and as usual, i enjoyed go and ash’s dynamic and the fun learning experience for Go.
i do believe pokemon go doesn’t make for a great template for a story in the pokemon world, but maybe either the mechanics of it will be just a background thing, or they will make it interesting by translating the kinda brutal game-mechanics into something that makes a little bit more sense. i saw some of that during the episode’s end, but they didn’t explain it all that much before that, which distracted me from the episode’s events. i DID realize at one point that they’re doing this as “research fellows” and not as trainers, per se. they’re studying the pokemon, even if this felt like a montage of throwing pokeballs with increasing success.
ALL THAT BEING SAID, i enjoyed the episode, the animation was great, the comedy was fun, the character dynamics were GREAT fun as usual. i’m looking forward to the next one. (i haven’t watched the preview yet hah i’m getting right into that)
