Miss Lli’s plague, Mr Tae’s hunger, Mr Raw’s battles - all of their nefarious plans worked to various degrees, for the group hellbent on purifying Sumner. They were pleased. They wanted a only the best supernaturals and humans to exist in their Sumner, according to their own manifest destiny. They wanted a purified Sumner. Everything was primed for the last and final onslaught over the wicked, corrupt, diseased town: the End of Days.
It didn’t come with any fancy pseudonym. It just arrived silent and dark, a rolling white fog spreading from the ocean and across the town. The fog didn’t dissipate as the sun rose. It slowly became thicker over the course of five days, until eventually the town seemed to exist in a dreamlike state.
Then people started to disappear.
The final cleansing of Sumner.

OOC Info:
What the hell is happening?
Plot-wise, Sumner is facing the final Horse of the Apocalypse: DEATH. Plague, Famine and War scoured the town and now it’s the final chapter for this supernatural haven. But even as the town sinks into a long slumber, there will be resistance, rising from the bones and buildings themselves.
Okay. So what the hell is actually happening??
OOCly, the SumnerSanctumRPG is going on hiatus! The town will be ‘put under’ so to speak for the duration of this hiatus, until plans to return to the game.
What will happen to us and our characters???
We’re thrilled to announce that all Players and your characters can be ‘transplanted’ into an alternative, separate and new supernatural sanctuary town!
Lori and Col will not be the Mods for this new game. The new Mods will be Mary (who plays Otto, Perl, and Lilo) and Maggie (who plays Ephram and Teddy). OH my god!!!!
How different will this new game/new town be?
The new game will still be a supernatural small town game. Mary and Maggie’s game will have a different feel from Sumner because it is their design. Some things will be different, other things will stay the same! We encourage you to read as much info as you can about the new game, once it officially opens.
What’s going to change for me?
As little as possible!! The Mods want your characters to retain as much plot from Sumner and ‘transplant’ it into the new town . Think of this new town as a superimposition onto Sumner, with unique customizations here and there. There may be some adjustments town-wise but overall we are planning to keep the transition as smooth as possible for Players and your characters.
What about my characters’ business?
That will remain exactly the same, just placed into the new town. All character locations and businesses not be changed by any Mods unless YOU want it to change.
What about my characters’ backstories?
All can stay the same.
HOWEVER - this can also be a chance to rework bios, histories etc to re-tool your character. If you have anything you’d like to adjust or add or discard in your character’s ethos, you can change it within reason (example: no species-hybrids). The standard rules apply for character-canon changes, but you would not need permission from Lori or Col.
Once the new game is opened, we recommend you read through their information and then discuss options with Maggie and Mary
What about my character’s plots?
No change. We want to make this transition as easy as possible, so all character plots can be transferred in full to the new town, with hopefully little adjustments.
My character has a long history/family heritage with Sumner. What happens there?
The Mods will not change your character’s history*. For example:
If your character lived 100 years in Sumner, those 100 years were actually lived in New-Town
If your character’s family is multi-generational in Sumner, that heritage is now based in New Town
If your character just moved to Sumner, they actually just moved to New Town.
As far as the world is concerned, Sumner simply no longer exists. This New Town is what exists now.
* if YOU choose to change your character’s history/backstory, then that is your decision.
Will my character know the change happened?
It will be like a deja vu, where your character might vaguely know something happened, but is unable to pin point the specifics. All previous Sumner plots (and the aftermath repercussions) will still be events they remember experiencing, but they will remember the events happening in the new town, not in Sumner. This way you can retain your characters’ growth/challenges that resulted from Sumner plots, without it being from Sumner.
What do I have to do???
Three things:
Ponder your character’s bio/history/canon. If there is anything you want to change, you can make a post to explain and elaborate on that!
We will announce the link to the new game’s Main account on November 19th. Anyone who wants to keep playing can just join the new game! No new applications needed. AGAIN: please carefully read the new game’s information, as the Mods have changes to suit their administration and their game canons.
Just keep on playing! No need to close threads, no need to have your character physically ‘moving’ in-game, nothing like that. Just one moment they are in Sumner and the next moment they are in the new town, but their plots won’t change.
Hello Sumnerites! As a little treat we’ll be taking a minor diversion from the Keepers at the Gate game plot for some Halloween celebrations in Sumner! This won’t distract from the main plot, but is mostly here to give us (and our characters) a well-deserved bit of fun. Here are some ideas for you and your character to explore:
Sanctum Academy will be holding a Bonfire Gathering on the beach! There’ll be booze, a marshmallows-blood sausage-weenie roast, booze, magical naked cavorting, booze, merfolk watershow and more booze.
Halloween costumes! If your character was donning a costume, what would they dress up as? Pic-sets, gif-sets and other creative posts encouraged!
The pumpkin field is pick-your own! Your characters can design their own pumpkin and win a prize! Judges will be Sheriff Coriander, the Mayor and Headmistress Bailey.
Halloween celebrations! How will your character celebrate Halloween? Dress up for a house party? Go bar-hopping in the Crossroads? Hand out candy? Go trick-or-treating? Sacrifice a lamb to their blood-god? Stalk that guy Samhain? Spend a night in a cemetery? Conduct a seance? Shut the doors, turn off the lights and associate with nothing and no one? Let us know in a self-para, creative post, thread, texts, whatever you like!
Below the cut is an ask box meme tailored just to Sumner! Post it for asks in your inbox and have fun!

Succubus: Who in Sumner do you think would make a good succubus and why?
You’re captured, and you don’t even realize how. And when you’re finally able to see your surroundings, it’s dark and you’re unable to move. In front of you, a rather chubby man dressed all in black prances in front of you, wearing a terrifying mask. He giggles when he sees you’re bleary but awake, and starts to speak.
“Welcome to the battle! If you want to live, you must fight your way out. Make it exciting, and don’t play dirty - you’re being broadcast by hidden cameras, for the enjoyment of a live audience!! After all what’s more entertaining than people fighting? People have been battling each other since the beginning of time, and it is always, always entertaining. Now it’s your turn, my brave fighter. It’s up to you to live, and you’ll be greatly rewarded for your efforts. Don’t tamper with the cameras though, or that’ll result in your immediate termination.” The mask gets closer to your face.
“And if you die? Well, we all know how the saying goes. Survival! Of! The! Fittest!!!”
With that, you pass out again, and when you wake up, you are alert and aware in a chamber of Sumner’s underground catacombs. Rules and equipment are placed in the chamber for you to play by.
Also? You’re not alone.
Mr. Raw is kidnapping townmembers and trapping them in the catacombs to fight their way out or die! Mr. Raw has not snatched up the whole town, he just takes randoms. Like other plots, if you don’t wish to participate in this, you don’t have to. However, participation is always encouraged!
OOC information about the event and chamber choices are under the cut.
OOC Info:
Your character does not have to actually kill another character to escape the chambers. Some rooms are puzzles that open when you solve it, other are escapable, but it is up to your characters to figure it out.
All of this takes place underground in the catacombs. So while the designs might be different, keep in mind that the setting is all tunnels and caverns. It can be under water or under land.
Make sure to discuss the thread you have with the other mun! Thread with preparation and a plan.
You can have multiple threads in the catacombs! Mr. Raw most likely would not let your character get away so easily!
While you can make up your own chamber, it’s encouraged that you pick from the list below. If you do make your own, make sure to run it by the mods beforehand, just in case!
Chamber Options:
The Pillars - Your characters are forced into a large room of pillars, whoever gets knocked off and into the water below first, loses.
The Podium - Your characters must take opposing views on a subject they both feel passionate about, and then debate it. The winner is declared when someone simply can’t refute the other persons point.
The Dungeon Hack - Your characters are outfitted with costumes a la Dungeons & Dragons class types, and must fight their way out. Monsters include: Eye of the Beholder, Gelatinous Cube, Bug Bear, Kobolds. Bonus points if dice are somehow used.
The Coliseum - Your characters are outfitted with sexy gladiator outfits and must battle raging animals, other gladiators, anything the fickle audience throws at you.
The Takeshi Castle - Your characters are outfitted in thick padded outfits and must run through an oversized obstacle course. The audience will mock you, as will the bakemono who judge you.
The Maze - Your characters are placed in a classical maze, with minotaurs and seductive beauties and other Classical Greek monsters, to confound you at every turn.
The Battleship - Your characters, one boardgame. Nuff said.
The Re-Creation - Your characters are in a war game, take no prisoners, and grab the flag. Choice of being opponents or working together.
The Contest - Your characters must perform a talent to win over the audience. Judges will be three hobgoblins with decades of experience in The Biz. Eliminate the competition and win the hearts of your adoring fans!
The Cardboard Box - Your characters must escape using only methods of stealth to dodge guards, patrols, alarms and cameras. Everything must be done on the quiet and detection will result in repeating the platformer - we mean, the task from the start again and again, and again...
Mr Raw watched a lot of movies - especially horror movies and especially movies about violence, fighting, blood and guts. He giggled incessantly through them, hopping and gyrating in his seat at the particularly gruesome parts of the endless movie choices.
“Enjoying yourself?” Miss Lli asked, her voice brittle, sarcastic, and dry, rolling her eyes slightly at the man’s antics. “Mr Tae’s little black fuzzball experiment around the town did nothing to permanently ‘gobble’ up any impure citizens. They were mostly a nuisance. At least I killed a few of the weak.”
“Before SMEG rolled in and dropped that vaccine on them,” Mr Raw said derisively, tearing his eyes away from the film momentarily. “Why disease them only to let them heal again?”
“Eye on the prize, brother. We want the strong to survive.”
“Yessss...” Mr Raw said, giggling and clapping as he watched a particularly hideous violent scene from a horror movie. A movie that apparently had seven sequels and video games to boot. “I’ll make sure of that. It’s Mr Raw’s turn now!”
The next plot drop will be coming this week, so stay tuned!
What to expect plot-wise? We will be offering a list of plot options for you to choose from, and then make threads with. Players are also, as always, free to explore the main plot drop on their own and go with their imagination. However we highly encourage that people make use of the plots suggestions that list.
Miss Lli had had her fun - and now it was time for Mr Tae’s special touch. And one quiet, cold night, he stood on the monadnock overlooking Sumner. He licked each of his fingers as if sucking fried grease off each digit, then softly blew the saliva particles out, towards the town. With a high pitched giggle, Mr Tae clapped his hands and returned to headquarters of the People’s Pioneers.
And then came the Gobblers.
OOC Info:
The Gobblers will happen in phases, and Players are free to roll out plots and threads however they choose, based on the phases!
PHASE ONE: Sumnerites start noticing things missing! Small or seemingly minor things at first: a photo on the mantle, or a pair of reading glasses. Eventually the missing items become more and more frequent, and people start finding infestations of tiny little beasties squirreled in various parts of their homes and workplaces and everywhere. They are the culprits behind the missing items, eating or ‘gobbling’ up anything they can find!
What are Phase One Gobblers? These little sentient critters are tiny little balls of black fluffiness. As reference think of a blend of the little coal sprites from Spirited Away, or adorable purring tribbles from Star Trek. They seem very cute and very affectionate.
PHASE TWO: The beasties, with every new thing they consume, start to grow. They are a bit slower than before, but still have the ability to roll around and get into everything they can. And now they work together and swallow things up whole. At first it doesn’t seem too bad - things like books, or microwaves. But when one Gobbler swallows a small pet terrier, things get serious.
What are Phase Two Gobblers? They are still fluffy balls, but have grown bigger, more demanding, and are able to consume more things. Think of gremlins from Gremlins or Nibbler from Futurama.
PHASE THREE: Many of the medium-sized Gobblers die or are killed, but a few grow to immense sizes, and their aggression grows greater. They are insatiable, eating everything in sight - even people. If you want your character to be eaten, they will exist inside the Gobbler, alive but literally in the belly of the beast. Inside the Gobbler, they will find an object from their past (recent or distant) that will have some sort of special memory for them. Characters can ‘exit’ the Gobbler however you see fit: magic, killing the Gobbler, being...passed naturally.
By this point, the Mayor has announced Gobbler Hunting Season: anyone who wants to kill a Gobbler, may do so. And the treasures it gobbled in its belly will be fair game to acquire, should the Gobbler-hunter want it.
What are Phase Three Gobblers? Think of No-Face from Spirited Away at his most aggressive, or grown Audrey II from Little Shop of Horrors. Nothing cute about them now.
And now the Pairs-Matching! Characters can use any Phase of the Gobblers Invasion to use for this paired interaction. Players can also of course plot on their own!
Keepers at the Gate: Next Plot Drop and Pair-Matching!
Just a head’s up that our next plot drop will be happening later this week, so stay tuned!
We’re also going to try something a bit different regarding plots and starters for this plot drop. In addition to Players doing plotting on their own threads, we’d like to encourage all Players to participate in a ‘Pair-Matching’ for this plot!
How it will work:
Players like this post if they want to participate
When the Mods drop the Plot, we will also pair characters together who haven’t and/or rarely interacted before
The matched Players can then message each other and discuss how they’d like their characters to interact using the Plot drop as a backdrop!
You can let us know how many Matches you’d like as well! If you want your character(s) to be paired with multiple people for multiple threads, just let us know
Please like this post if you want to participate in Pair-Matching for the next Plot Drop!
And if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
The posters show up in all community areas, and on the Sumner Snaps app, and there is also an announcement made by the Mayor himself addressing Sumner’s recent concerns. It provides Sumnerites with information regarding this recent strange illness epidemic sweeping the town, and also information on what to do.
1. The Sumner Medical Emergency Group (S.M.E.G.) will provide administration and citizen support during this medical emergency. Dr. Edwina Calamander, Sumner General’s Chief Administrative Surgeon and member of one of Sumner’s long-standing founding family will provide leadership and guidance for S.M.E.G.
2. Sumner General Hospital has created an Emergency Triage Center located in the East Parkade. Sick individuals do not need an appointment. Patient intake processes will be regulated and orderly, however due to the widespread illness, wait times might be long. Please come prepared!
3. Please help yourself to short sheet pamphlets which list possible symptoms based on species. If you display ANY of these symptoms, please report to the Sumner General Hospital or contact the Sheriff’s Department immediately.
ILLNESS IS CONTAGIOUS! Please use caution:
Fairies: VERY contagious, spread through fairy dust
Gargoyles: please remain in gargoyle form to prevent contagion
