y’all can we please talk about spirit: stallion of the cimmaron? 

like it’s so good, has a beautiful, beautiful representation of indigenous Lakota life, so serious in it’s representation of the mindset of Manifest Destiny and how toxic that was in so many ways (unprovoked attacks against indigenous peoples, the systematic “breaking and taming” of wildlife, horses, and the Lakota themselves) and the drastic difference between the “hostile” Lakota’s treatment of horses and the land (equal partners and friends in sharing what the land has to offer and what they have to offer to each other, respect for when other creatures won’t live domesticated like legit Little Creek is like “I’m never gonna ride you am I? And no one ever should.”) and the US army/white colonizer treatment (see above). and like the ultimate takeaway is that the ones you love always come back to you and a wild, free spirit can NEVER be broken no matter the challenges and i just really really love this movie it’s beautiful, the animation is beautiful, the score is GORGEOUS and so fun and i wish more people talked about this movie
