Highlights of Galaxy Fest, where I was selling this past weekend:
-When I said I didn't actually know much about Deadpool, Deadpool pulled nerdy glasses out of a pouch on his belt, put them on, and said "Let me explain you a thing." And now I know about Deadpool.
-My son was the Empty Child from first-new-season Dr. Who on Sunday morning when he got to come with me for part of the day. He was exceedingly well behaved and *wanted* to wear his gasmask and scare people and get his picture taken. I am so proud. (I'm also very happy because he made a friend with another boy that had a 3DS, and they sat at my table playing DS's at each other for a while, and then the other boy's mom took them to the video game room where they got several levels into Mario, and they had a fantastic time. Incredibly positive experience. :D ) ...Only problem was that thanks to his autism he mixes up pronouns a bit, so I was telling him "say 'Are you my mummy'" and he'd answer "Yes". *facepalm* Took other people saying it to get him to repeat it. But really he looks the part enough that he didn't have to say it to scare people. (For the record, he's only seen clips of that episode as yet, since some of it would still be a little more scary than I want him to deal with yet. He does watch other Dr. Who and loves it though. He picked a Dr. Who blind box toy as his con swag/reward for being good when he went home.)
-Inflatable planetarium. No I'm not high; this is a thing that exists and on the second 20 hour day in a row it was fantastic. ...I might as well have been high. (I didn't get to coordinate getting my son to that since I couldn't leave my booth, sadly. Maybe next time.)
-I have now seen the Diva Plavalaguna perform. I fangirled.
-Awesome guy working on an FF7 Vincent costume... wearing the claw he'd gotten done already... made in actual brass. *FANGIRL SQUEAL* Clearly I need to try to get back into shape (now that that's remotely an option again, thanks lungs) enough to cosplay Loz (in actual leather, still proud of that) again.
-I was randomly given a rose... origami, made from a paper towel.
-Lack of Ragnarok, so I had a birthday and had sushi and mochi and tiramisu and awesome panda cookies that my fiancé sent me from a bakery in San Francisco. I already loved those panda cookies, but they seriously kept me going when I was wiped out tired and couldn't go anywhere to get food yet. (Yes, this is both a "thank you" and "my fiancé is awesome" note.)
-The table next to mine on one side belonged to a guy working the con, so I was kind of in charge of his stuff too. His stuff being Dr. Who and steampunk molded glycerine soaps. I never really liked cucumber scent but the cucumber scent he used was spectacular. I do not understand it but I was huffing his soaps all weekend and it was awesome. Also he cast green Daleks in cucumber scent, which for some reason was just funny to me. Because they kind of look like cucumbers in green, or something.
-He also had a Steampunk Wheelchair completely functional art piece for sale. This thing was fantastic. If I had somewhere to keep it I'd be pining over it far worse. I got lots of pictures so that he can post it online; they'll be going up on the Galaxy Fest facebook and such too. When I get to pictures. -_- Hopefully this week though.
-Bracelet for Ladyhawk (v.2; v.1 was a custom order at Christmas) turned out to be a real conversation starter for customers. Mostly for HOW HAVE YOU NOT SEEN THAT MOVIE conversations. ...And it sold.
-I sold out of Supernatural bracelets (both the "one of these ought to work" religious symbol bracelets and the regular fandom ones). As soon as I was sold out, three or four other people came by looking for stuff for Supernatural. ...I hope my order of new Impala charms and pie charms gets here quick. -_- The daggers I use to represent the angel knives (among other things) came in at least!
-TWICE I wound up making custom stuff for people because the bracelet they'd seen and come back for sold to someone else JUST before they got there. (But that's cool because they could get custom exactly-what-they-wanted jewelry then!)
-There was a guy that could talk in Donald Duck and Goofy voices that was talking to my son. My son is all over Disney right now and got so excited that he was rolling around on the floor giggling with his hands over his face. So if you ever want to know what absolute abject delight looks like... (Ugh I need money so I can take him to Disneyland before he outgrows it. -_- Along with all the other everyday reasons I need money.)
-I missed getting pics of the entire 90s-style X-Men core cast (with Magneto pushing Prof. X's wheelchair) or the G. I. Joe cartoon cast, but I did get a pic of the Tick cast. (Same group of cosplayers I think.) I flailed. I hope the pic comes out.
-ZOMBIES. If you like zombies, we got zombies. Get to Galaxy Fest.
-Girl Scout Cookies. Unfortunately they sold out by the time I could get there.
-I knew where the Girl Scout Cookies were without leaving my booth because any time zombies passed you could hear the shrieking of young girls all over the dealer's hall. XD
-I have had "Between Two Lungs" by Florence + The Machine stuck in my head since Friday, because that was when some of the charms I ordered came in and I got a pendant shaped like a rib cage. I managed to hang a butterfly and two hearts inside it. It's pretty subtle in all silver; I might try to get another and see if I can get a little red or pink glass heart (or two) into it. ...I definitely need more though. Always good when something I get to try out turns out to be awesome.
