38 - Captain Olimar
The space commander of the S.S. Dolphin from planet Hocotate, and discoverer of the strange plant creatures known as pikmin.
Captain Olimar appeared for the first time back in the Nintendo Gamecube days, I remember learning about Pikmin for the first time on the trailer that came on my copy of Luigi’s Mansion for Cristmas(it was my very first Gamecube game and I remember feeling veeeery upset because I wanted Smash Melee but it was sold out, still its such a good game <3 anyways…), I can recall just sitting feeling completely curious about this strange nature filled game.
Later on a cousin of mine bought Pikmin and he lent it to me and I remember just having a reaaally tough time with it, it was awesome but the mechanics felt so foreign, it was something completely new for me and kind of complicated, micro managing pikmins by types, and having a limited amount of days to clear the game made it a very hectic experience for me.
I remember losing my first playthrough due to lack of time hahah. I played Pikmin again when I bought the 3rd one for the Wii U and I had a BLAST, being older and having more experience of strategy games changed everything for me, and I absolutely fell in love with the series.
When they first introduced Olimar to the Smash roster it was crazy, he’s such a different character and his moveset mirrors his game’s playstyle really well, he feels very different to the rest of the characters just like his game and I like that a lot; Weird/underdog characters are always my favorites and I really hope Pikmin 4 gets announced some time soon. I had a lot of fun drawing this one <3
