first night in the new house, chilling in the living room wrapped in blankets, watching (and taking the piss out of) the last hobbit movie. we also have chinese food.
the thing that really bothers me about dismaland is that if it's meant to show all that is wrong with our society - from capitalism to our obsession with social media - then why choose a way of showing it that fits perfectly into the capitalist agenda? you could say that it's another joke, 'destroying the system from the inside' or whatever but if it is meant to be a joke, no one's really laughing tbh cause it's still working through capitalism - dismaland's site crashed from all the web traffic because so many people were trying to buy tickets before the park opens to the general public on saturday - just like they would if this was a new disneyland or disneyworld or god knows what kind of super mega fun theme park opening in the neighbourhood then what do we get? people buy their tickets, go in and spend their entire time snapping pictures and bragging about having been to this place afterwards - which is supposed to be the butt of the joke apparently? but again, no one is laughing. remember when the hunger games first came out and people were upset that the marketing of the movies shifted the focus from the social satire to the love triangle, exactly how it happened in the books? i feel like the same thing is happening here, like banksy is making us miss the point and sabotaging the message with this pretentious snobby bs he's trying to convey through this sad exhibition
there's a bunch of very loud strangers in my house for my flatmates' graduation and they keep banging on my door and trying to open it and they're in the hallway and in the garden this is literally my social anxiety nightmare come to life :///
