5, 6, 7, GO!
Pfff. Hi Eva. ♥
5: what inspires you to write?
Lots of things. Like, this many. [stretches arms really wide] It can range from a thought that occurred to me, something I saw on the internet or in real life (especially textured objects!! Those photos from the Geology Museum at ROM are basically a goldmine of ideas for me), music, photographs... anything, pretty much.
But if it’s like, inspire to write as in the actual concept and life that is that of a writer, I’ve been writing since I was very young. Third grade-ish, I’ve been writing since around that time. I’m also an avid reader, so I suppose that’s another catalyst for my fondness for writing.
As I grew up, I realised that I daydreamed a lot (this is because, according to Piaget, most people under the age of 12 don’t quite get abstract concepts), and I figured I should write them down because they seemed like good ideas. I used to want to be a writer so bad, from the womb to the tomb, but now, it’s more casual than that as I’ve figured out that literature isn’t the only art there is that I can do well in.
6: thoughts on critique
I’ve never really thought of it? I’m bad at confrontational things and critique falls under that - based on my experience in art workshops, anyway. I’m sure other people can get behind that, but I’m not really a fan. I’d rather learn from rereading it myself and asking someone of their opinion rather than unsolicited advice. As Gaiman said, “when people tell you there’s something wrong, they’re almost always correct. But when they tell you what’s wrong, they almost always wrong.”
7: create a character on the spot…. NOW!
Louise had her hands full with too many things that day, from a thesis group meeting at around 10am at the library, skyping her parents in the evening, sending the edited draft to the company she’s interning in, and she’s sure that there’s still much more that that came from, with her phone beeping away at her every hour. She barely had sleep last night, and so far everyone’s told her she look like she just rose up from her coffin without a good meal.
Okay, the vampire jokes need to stop. Besides, she’s only half-vampiric! If anything, zombie jokes are way more appropriate as she’s mostly dead and not at all immortal. Besides, coffins are so 1900s gothic.
