The illustrations from the 'looping the rooms' trend I made, I really love the variety in Klarion's designs! Seven soldiers is my favorite, I take a lot of inspiration from it into my personal Klarion design.
I also had fun drawing all the different little Teekl's!!
Hot take: we were fucking ROBBED of more Limbotown/submissionary lore, I actually liked Judah and wanted to see more of him, same with Ebeneezer and the other two submissionaries and the Horigals
I could perfectly see what could’ve been extremely complex and interesting storylines, and the concept of a pilgrim-esque race descending from fucking spiders. Only for it to be smashed into four short ass-comics to try and hurry Klarion into the broader spectrum of the dc universe and I am NOT happy about it
-A Sinister Kid and His Cat: a Klarion & Teekl playlist
(Behold my quick doodle lol)
Okay, I don’t post much on tumblr, but here’s my meager contribution to the Klarion fan base. Hopefully someone out there will actually give these songs a listen lol.
I’ve supplied embedded links to YouTube for listening convenience, but feel free to just add the songs into a playlist on your own YouTube account, Spotify, or your preferred music service of choice. Ultimately, I didn’t make my own Spotify playlist because it didn’t have all of the songs I wanted for this and also because, honestly, I have mixed feelings about Spotify. Also, please let me know if the links don’t work, because I’d want to fix them.
(Honestly, if 8 Tracks was still around I’d use that. RIP 8 Tracks)
Anyway, I yap a lot here about my decision-making process, so scroll to the bottom if you want the actual playlist.
—————————————————
Below is a list split into two sections; the first section has a somewhat purposeful order, roughly matching events from the Seven Soldiers of Victory comic, with a few other songs that are more "artistic license”. Most of the songs in this section are either (1) about Limbo Town/Beyond Country, (2) are about or from the perspective of Klarion himself, or (3) are about or from the perspective of Teekl.
Genre-wise, I wasn’t too strict with my choices, although you’ll notice that I generally chose somber, folksy, or religious themed songs for Limbo Town, and picked punk, new wave, or assorted 60s-70s songs for Klarion (or just songs that are reminiscent of that era). The latter decision was made because Klarion first debuted during 1973 in The Demon #7, and also because he very clearly seems to be one of the many “evil child” characters created during the 60s-70s, when the youth culture at the time was jarring to many adults, and so there was a surge of those sorts of characters in media. Granted, I’m not sure if that was the actual intention when inventing Klarion, but it feels like a valid reading.
Also, it just makes for fun music!
Meanwhile, the second section of this list is much simpler. It’s a mixed bag of vaguely Klarion and/or Teekl themed songs in no particular order or style. Some songs align more with ssvo!Klarion, and some are songs that draw from other Klarions. Quite a few songs are simply about Klarion’s friendship with Teekl.
Finally–even though I’m sure absolutely no one will care–I’ve included some brief reasoning and relevant song themes in parentheses. And, if anyone wants to, I welcome people to reblog or reply with their own additions or comments. Enjoy!
1. Virtues of Salem — Salem the Musical (intro to Limbo Town)
2. The Sinister Kid – The Black Keys (Klarion’s character in general; runs after his “maker” in a literal and figurative sense)
3. The Stray Cat Strut — Stray Cats (about Teekl; pairs with Sinister Kid)
4. Pray — American Murder Song (Limbo Town; religiosity, suffocating environment, a family hiding “below”)
5. Second Child, Restless Child — The Oh Hellos (Klarion)
6. Vienna — Billy Joel (Teekl’s response to Second Child; could also be from Ezekial’s pov)

9. The Logical Song –Supertramp (questioning norms, life’s complexity, Klarion’s fears of growing up)
10. A Purpose for New London: Faith vs Order – Stupendium, Dan Bull (harsh conditions and political turmoil in Limbo Town/Beyond Country)
11. Gotta Get Outta Here – Carrie Manolakos – Lizzie musical (Klarion hears that the Wicker Gate will be closing. Could also be seen as Klarion talking to either Teekl or Ezekiel)
12. The Law – REACH (reasserting “order,” the submissionaries turn into a horigal and kill a number of people—including Ezekiel)
13. Run Boy Run – WOODKID (Klarion runs for his life)
14. Candyman — Siouxsie and The Banshees (this and the next song are about Ebenezer Badde; could be interpreted as The Leviathan warning Teekl and Klarion)

23. Wait for Me - Douglas De Shields et al. from Hadestown. (Klarion—reluctantly, at first—agrees to return)
24. Giants in the Sky - Daniel Huttlestone from Into the Woods (not quite the tone I’d like, but this represents Klarion reflecting on his experiences in Blue Rafters while also warning Limbo Town)
25. The Mob Song - Beauty and the Beast 2017 (Limbo Town’s response)
26. Ballroom Blitz - Sweet (lots of fighting!)
27. Song of the Witches - S.J. Tucker (the witchfolk prevail)

31. Sticking With You - Velvet Underground (Klarion and Teekl, together)
32. Season of the Witch - Donovan (victorious, this marks Klarion and Teekl entering their “season” of independence on the surface world. A transition point to the next section of songs).
——— LIST #2
1. Cherry Bomb - The Runaways (Klarion and Teekl unleashed on the world…)
2. Macavity:The Mystery Cat - Cats (1983 Broadway Cast) (a song about a magical, mischievous cat: need I say more?)

10. Rock This Town - Stray Cats
11. Disobedient - Kate Micucci and Michaela Dietz from Steven Universe

13. Power for the Return Match - Joh Yoban (Klarion returning after the first encounter with Jason Blood)
14. Feel It Still - Portugal The Man (like a Peter Pan figure, I like to imagine that Klarion and Teekl have been having fun in the surface for a while, hence allusions to different decades)
15. Lost Boy - Ruth B.
16. Bones - Imagine Dragons
17. You’re Gonna Go Far Kid - The Offspring
18. Can You Keep Up - Blue Kid (ignoring the romance implications, this is Klarion spending time with a new human “playmate”)

20. New Soul - Yael Naim
21. Movin’ Out (Anthony’s Song) - Billy Joel

31. Sweet Friend - Orion Experience

33. Can’t Catch Me Now - Olivia Rodrigo
34. The Devil Went Down to Georgia - The Charlie Daniel’s Band

36. Hey Kid - Bad Seed Rising (ignoring the “flirty” lyrics, this has rebellious edgy kid vibes)
37. THIS KIDS NOT ALRIGHT - AWOLNATION
38. (I can’t get no) Satisfaction - The Rolling Stones (ignoring the adult themes, this is Klarion feeling stifled by “the man” or adults in general)
39. That’s Not My Name - The Ting Tings (gives me “I’m not a pilgrim!” energy)
40. California Dreamin’ - The Mamas & Papas (Klarion in Limbo Town, wishing he was elsewhere)
41. Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana (I mean, it’d be criminal not to include this)
42. Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes - Edison Lighthouse (Teekl thinking of Klarion)
43. Revolting Children - Matilda Netflix Musical, Charlie Hodson-Prior et al.(honestly, comics should have more stories where Klarion is “revolting” on behalf of human kids, with disastrous results. I see potential there!)
44. On the Road to Find Out - Cat Stevens
45. The Witch - Ciara Renée and Norbert Leo from Big Fish The Musical (Klarion can tell people when they die, after all)
46. Bad Seed Rising - Bad Seed Rising (another edgy rebellious kid song)
47. Necromancin’ Dancin’ - Bear Ghost
48. Puff the Magic Dragon - Peter, Paul & Mary (sort of fits, but I could never see Klarion and Teekl growing apart)
49. It’s Gonna Get Weird - Neil Cicierega (look, maybe I’m just shameless GF trash, but I think this song fits chaos lord Klarion fairly well)
50. High Hopes - Panic at the Disco (I think “mama” could be Teekl in this case)
51. I Love My Cat - Blimp Rock
52. Woe to the People of Order: Technoblade’s War Ballad - Cami-Cat (I mean, order vs chaos, freedom vs imprisonment… there’s a link)
53. No Roots - Alice Merton
54. I’d Rather Be Burned as a Witch - Eartha Kitt (a bit flirty for Klarion, but still has the right spirit imo)
55. Not The Villain - S. J. Tucker
53. Mr. Mistoffelees - Cats (1983 broadway cast) (look, it’s not my fault that Cats has two magical characters, alright?)
54. Better in the Morning - Birdtalker (could be interpreted as Klarion growing up/becoming more anti-hero than villain/coming to terms with his experiences)
Back on my limbo town soap box, what would people from limbo town be called?
Obviously, they're all homo magi thanks to pink Andrew tate, buts that's their genus (or whatever I'm not a biologist). Maybe Limbo Townian, but that sounds too awkward. Witch could work... If this wasn't dc where there's a thousand other witches.
Limboian? Limboish? Croatonian (I think this works well)?
Judging by Klarion's reaction, pilgrims wouldn't do either, and puritains aren't historically accurate. Side rant, Limbo townsfolk being called "puritains," yet also being Roanoke colonial settlers makes no sense. Why would the British, who oppressed the puritains, send them to America to settle on their behalf?
But back on track, i don't even know if Limbo Town is known enough to have a name for the people that come from there. Less than like 5% are or have interacted with the world's surface themselves for them to even be documented as an ethnicity. However, for the sake of this analysis, let's say Limbo Town has started to be somewhat accquanted (I can't spell sorry) with the overworld for a few years into the future. They're not publically known, but have provided some new crypid theories in America, and are instead only known by the deep American government. What would a person of Limbo Town descent be identified as? In the Dc universe, do they instead identify people as their genus because of the vast difference of species threatening earth?
