The scent of freshly baked bread filtered Jinyoung's nose the moment his body entered the small yet spacious room. The cafè wasn't too crowded (—it never was too crowded), having only a few tables occupied by young high school couples and friends, laughing at moving lips that he couldn't read. There were some who were in his boat as well—alone, with a messenger bag that held their laptop, a cup, and a sweet pastry. (Minus the cup and pastry that were currently waiting for him in front of the line and behind the counter.)
He was in a relaxed state of mind for once. There was something about cafès or coffee houses in general that brought joy to Jinyoung. Perhaps it was the quiet chatter of the customers, or the friendly atmosphere created by the interior decor, or the liveliness that rang throughout the perimeter of the room, reminding him that he wasn't back on campus grounds anymore. The thought of finally getting away from studying, doing homework, and going to classes made him enthusiastic, even if it was only for an hour or so. Though an 'expert' with college life, being a third year, it still stressed him out practically all the time with the expectations his professors and the school itself expected from him. Hell, of what he expected from himself.
So when it was finally his turn in line to walk up to the cashier and to be greeted by a "Hello! What can I get for you today?", he gladly ordered a caramel macchiato and a butter croissant. Jinyoung began to wonder as he stood there, returning his change from his order into his wallet, what surprising events were in store for him.
