Genuinely curious why most feminist interpretations of the Garden of Eden story erase the blatant manipulation and deception of the serpent. In reality, people are targeted by predators all the time, regardless of gender. It’s universal, and I think it’s inspirational to view Eve as the first survivor of a predator.

I understand the former interpretation, but it seems almost no feminist has the latter, which I find strange considering how many people are targeted by predators. I’m wondering why more people aren’t interested in a story of The First Survivor.

Saints Adam and Eve are not saints in the ordinary reference, historic or scriptural ways. Catholic tradition holds that Adam and Eve repented of their great sin and lived lives of holiness and are with Christ in heaven. Adam is the Father of the Human race. Eve, formed from Adam's body, is his wife. The human race is descended from them. During the Easter Vigil Mass, St.Thomas Aquinas quote "oh holy fault of Adam" is used to make the point of how great Jesus's death was for the human race. {website}

Ezer [the word used to describe the role of Eve] is a powerful Hebrew militaristic term which implies the action of a warrior. Within the context of the Garden of Eden, protection and cultivation were top priority. Adam was given the task to “guard” Eden...implying that there is something or someone that Eden needed protection against... Evil was on the prowl, (how else would the serpent have been able to enter the garden to deceive Eve in the first place?), and Adam needed a strong equal who could be his partner in battle, (a warrior), and in his work of cultivation and protection… She most likely needed to rely on her warrior nature even more in the harsher environment outside of Eden... Mother Eve’s warrior-like and assertive personality has rippled through history, sometimes understood, but too often misunderstood... Eve’s is a story of strength and resilience, of leadership and of misunderstanding and hard lessons learned. She is a figure to be admired, learned from and honored as the Mother of All Life.

Observation: If Eve is the mother of all living, that must include Adam, since he was living. Of course, I view this as more figurative/spiritual than physical, but it is food for thought.

As I've mentioned, I interpret Song of Songs as (among other things) a reclaiming of the garden on Eve's own terms, so I personally view this image as depicting Eve reclaiming her garden and eating/sharing fruit of her own free will. (Obviously not the artist's intention, but this is how I'm personally imagining it in my thumbnail.)
