I would have never thought he would even look at me, that he would think me interesting enough to talk to me. But when he did, I was even more surprised by what he had to say. It didn’t make any sense. He didn’t care about me, and I didn’t like him anyway. Assuming he wasn’t being serious, I rolled my eyes at Billy.
“Very funny, Billy, ha ha” I said in a deadpan voice. “You had your fun, now leave me alone”
“I’m serious, so I’ll ask again” He smirked, but the way he was looking at me told me he really was interested. “Wanna go out with me, gorgeous?”
I couldn’t help but to laugh, shaking my head at him in disbelief.
“Why would I go out with you?” I slammed my locker closed in annoyance, but it didn’t seem to bother him. He was in fact staring, seemingly mesmerized.
“Why not?”
“I can think of many reasons”
“Like?”
“We’re so different! You’re mean and aggressive and-”
“We’re actually more alike than you realize” He interrupted me, and something changed in him, in his eyes. They were suddenly almost... warm. “Let me prove it to you”
“I don’t know...” I averted my gaze, suddenly flustered at the change in his usual demeanor. He seemed to be trying to show me a different side of him, one almost tender.
With the corner of my eye I caught a glimpse of a sweet smile. His fingers tugged at my hand and he took it when he saw I didn’t push him away.
“C’mon on, sweetheart, give me a chance” He said, tugging at my hand to maintain eye contact. “Just one”
“One date” I finally said, adamant about not giving him more than that.
“It’s all I need” In quite a gentlemanly way, he bowed down slightly and kissed my knuckles before letting go of my hand. “Pick you up at seven”
I didn’t say anything, silently watching him walk away. It was the first time I saw him behave like that, and even if his demeanor hadn’t entirely changed, as he was still flirty and bold and cocky... it felt genuine. Deep down, it felt... soft.
