For the ask game: Star Trek.
i'm still amused that you just gave me star trek, flat out. but i do enjoy the qualification you gave me over discord of something you'd enjoy. i was gonna go with b'elanna/seven, as i think you'd be fond, and seven is where all of fandom's neurodivergent feels go to, but they're at 163 works (tho probably most of them are side/past ships) so they don't quite make the rare pair threshold.
so, my friend, you're getting a beloved m/f ship. certainly not a het ship, as they are both absolutely queer and at least one of them reads as very trans to me: b'elanna torres/harry kim.
he's fresh out of star fleet. bumbling, kind. would be a himbo except he's intelligent, he just... doesn't always have the best situational awareness. she's maquis. the show paints them as terrorists, but you'd probably feel similarly to them as i do. she's angry and distrusting of just about everyone, but especially star fleet. there's.... a lot going on.
let's just say when they get trapped together on an alien planet with no way of contacting the rest of the crew on the first episode, you'd expect them to be butting heads the whole damn time. and they do a little. but harry is kind, and when he pushes her to work together, he's not harsh about it, and he's the only person in the whole damn show who ever pronounces her name correctly. and she ends up being able to trust him despite all her history with star fleet. and they make it out of certain death together. there's even a little hurt/comfort trope, and you know how much i go for that sort of thing!
ofc their relationship is criminally underutilized throughout the rest of the series, but we do get some sweet little moments. and i'm pretty sure that most of the 3 pages of fic they have on ao3 is part of their ot3 with tom paris, which is a good time, but for me, they really do stand up by themselves and i'll always be fond.
