I don’t really post ever but we are one hour away from the drop of DanDaDan ch. 211 and I have so many thoughts about what could possibly happen next.

I know that I was so invested in seeing get Momo back to normal that I wasn’t paying enough attention to all of the other stuff that was happening. So after I cried a bit for poor Okarun I went back and reread a lot of what lead up to this.

Here are some of things that I noticed leading up to this week, along with of the what ifs that have been stuck in my head all week.

First off - this has to be the same person right? She’s covering her eye and she’s hunched over because gravity is hard on her.

So at this point I’m pretty sure that St.Germain or one of his contractees scooped up Momo. My guess is that this locks her power away because she hasn’t yielded and it’s been stated that her power is considered special and extra dangerous. I cant find the first one but there are mirroring images of a procession of the female teacher ahead of St. Germaine’s zombies that looks like the procession that Momo sees right before she’s scooped up.

The Jiji and Zuma of it all-

I think that there’s a much better chance of her getting a crush on Zuma than Jiji because Zuma is the one male character in the story so far to have a noticeable Ken Takakura vibe about him. I also think that Jiji has figured out that Momo and Okarun are really into each other and he cares for Okarun. Zuma isn’t as aware of Momo and Okarun’s relationship, but there was this cryptic scene (for Zuma) from the cursed trunk that Zuma will probably get to figure out in the coming chapters, especially if Momo seems into him now. I’m honestly not too worried about her truly falling for another person because Momo and Okarun’s building relationship has been at the core of the plot no matter who or what has shown up. It’s pretty literally spelled out in the first lines of the story.

Other thoughts-

I think (hope) that Turbo Granny is off doing something to help fight against St. Germain since she got so p*ssed off when she saw the Serpos discussing him, so my fingers are crossed that she’ll be back for the climax of this arc.

I really had not been into the idea that Okarun was anything but a human but I’m kind of starting to think that he might be at least part alien, could he be related to the one eyed alien somehow? They both have really bad posture! Yes that’s where the beginning of this theory comes from so I know it’s shaky at best.

I’m going to stop here because it’s almost time to read the next chapter!

Necromancer

One of my recent favorites has been the classic Corpse Reviver No. 2. It's a playful, biting drink that is the epitome of balance, and one of those flavors that is indescribable except to taste it yourself.

And today I saw some maniac suggest switching the gin and the absinthe. I was intrigued.

3/4 oz absinthe (Lucid)

3/4 oz St. Germain

3/4 oz Lillet Blanc

3/4 oz lemon juice (fresh)

Dash gin (Drumshanbo)

Rinse glass with gin and discard. Shake all other ingredients with ice, strain, serve up. Garnish with lemon twist.

Holy shit. That was my first thought. I love the Corpse Reviver No. 2 and this blows it clear out the water. Using absinthe as the leading note may seem more bold than it was wise, but it pays off beautifully. All the other ingredients work expertly to accentuate the beauty of the absinthe, and they neither let it overwhelm the drink or overwhelm it in turn. And there's just a lovely tail of pure absinthe that tingles the tongue. Lucid's a decent absinthe, my workhorse, but I think this one would really be hurt by an inferior, cheap absinthe, so use a good bottle. That aside, this is one of my new favorites.

How to Prepare for What’s Coming

Position yourselves in such a way that you are ready for what it is that you desire to experience. What you are telling the universe you want you must also make yourselves available to. Make room in your lives for that which you believe will enhance your lives. You are very creative people, and you have lots of ways in which you have discovered to prepare for what is to come.

Many people on Earth will prepare for what they do not want. They will prepare for burglars and thieves by putting alarm systems on their homes and bars over their windows. They will prepare for natural disasters by stocking up on supplies: candles, flashlights, canned goods, water and so forth. Others prepare for a nuclear war by building an underground bunker for themselves and their families.

And so, you can see how you have used your creative minds to prepare for what you do not want in a variety of ways. Now is the time for you to expect and prepare for that which you do want. This is true for a number of very important reasons.

The first reason is that you are putting out the energy of what it is that you do want while you are focusing upon it, and you are putting out that energy while you are preparing for it.

Secondly, you have never been more powerful as deliberate creators as you are right now.

Thirdly, you have all the tools that you will ever need inside of you and many of you have discovered these tools. I am talking about the tool of focus, the tool of visualization, and the tool of vibrating in harmony with that which you desire. Fourthly, we are all on an ascension path together and therefore everything is moving faster and faster and faster as you ascend.

Now, one of the ways in which you can prepare for that which you say you want is by imagining what you will do when what you desire arrives at your doorstep. If you desire to be in a harmonious romantic relationship, clean up your living space, update your wardrobe, and maybe even go to the dentist and get your teeth cleaned. Prepare for what you want. You can get even more creative than the suggestions that I have given you here, of course.

And many of you desire to experience a windfall of financial abundance. Have plans for all of that money when it does arrive. Know where you will put it, what you will spend it on, what charities you will donate it to, and so on. Anticipate the desires that you want to manifest, but also, enjoy the now moment that you are in.

Do not think that your life will only begin when the manifestations you desire come to that doorstep of yours. Live right now as the person you think all of your manifestations will cause you to be. Live your fullest and best life now. Be the version of yourself you know you can be now, and do it for the joy of it.

Do it because you have decided it’s who you want to be, and let go of your attachment to those manifestations so they can come in the perfect timing, in the perfect way, and in the perfect packaging. That is my advice to all of you.

A neat historical detail in Castlevania

As I just finished reading the somewhat older David Graeber book "Debt: The First 5000 Years" and this book kinda had me constantly thinking about this one scene from Castlevania S03E01.

Now, mind you. The first four Castlevania seasons really are not that point on when it comes to history. Generally speaking the scenes that have Isaac tend to be a bit more historically accurate, but both in terms of general history, and historic clothing this show is often quite far away from the reality.

And here comes this lady in, who in Lindenfeld sells a bit of produce. First: This lady has fairly accurate clothing for the time. Sure, there is a bit of an issue as she is wearing no jacket or anything, while it is clearly early winter. (But that is a general issue in the entire show. I wrote about this before: I am fairly sure that Castlevania takes place between Late-September 1476 and Late-December '76 or Early-January '77. And winters around this time were darn cold - especially in this area. And the folks at Powerhouse clearly underestimated the weather xD)

All of this makes me so delighted that this one specific scene is actually pretty spot on.

What happens in this scene? Well, St. Germain wants to buy two apples, and this lady, who clearly cannot stand him. So, she overcharges him, asking double the price of the day before. He is a traveler who came through several other places before, and he has a silver coin (a groschen) of a higher value on him. Meanwhile she is like: "Eh, I don't care. This is one silver coin, it counts as one silver coin."

Now, to be fair: The price is a bit too high historically speaking (generally speaking a silver coin at the time was usually worth between 25 and 50 English pounds in today's money). While we surprisingly have no written down prices for apples, we know that generally apples were sold by weight and not per unit, and were considerably cheaper.

However, other things in this scene check out.

See, here is a thing that people do not realize about the middle ages - and specifically the late 15th century.

Most people did not in fact use coin money, but just a system of credit and debt. In the late 15th century, coinage was super, super unreliable as the value was constantly changing, due to the political instability of Europe.

About the first part of this: If you ever heard people talk about how folks bartered. Yeah, that mainly is bullshit. Yes, at times this happened during the middle ages, but it mainly happened for the following reason: Until the Roman Empire came around people in Europe mainly just went about exchanging goods under the thinking of "I do you a solid, you will do me a solid". People basically had "debt" with people from their village. Then the Roman Empire came and introduced money, so after the empire fell and the money was gone (because no new money was minted) and people still had about the money value of the goods in mind, and would go "well an apple was about worth as much as 4 eggs, so give me 4 eggs in return". But this also declined during the middle ages.

While yes, at the point the show takes place there were once more people minting money, the royals that controlled the currency constantly changed the value of the money around to adjust the debt and taxes through it. Which was especially going on a lot in the late 15th century, because of the wars going on.

So, most people went back to just the old debt system. Aka: "You do me a solid, I will do you a solid in the future." However, there was a group of people, who could not partake in this form of exchange. And that was travelers, who obviously did not stay around along in one place to get to do "a solid" in return, were to foreign and hence distrusted, and as such had to use coinage to trade. Because at least whoever sold something from them had something that they could trust on in return. Hence, St. Germain, who is a traveler and clearly has the aura of a fraudster, would have to use coins to trade. And again, the value of the money was actually super instabable. While the well-dressed market-lady would probably not really know the current value of coins, she is totally not off to say: "Duh, prices rise," and who is there to check on her.

Hence, I have only the highest respect for this queen, who miraculously has actually gotten a voice actor. xD

What was the purpose of St. Germain? I get that the game is hinting that he's a time-traveler seeking to stabilize the timeline by railroading Hector, maybe a fourth wall-breaker. But his story honestly strikes me as extraneous, taking up time we could have used to develop other characters.

So, you know how he says this in the final cutscene?

There is one great battle yet to be fought -- the final battle between Lord Dracula and the humans. Perhaps they will remember your fight. Or perhaps it will start anew.

In IGA's timeline, Dracula was defeated once and for all by Julius Belmont in 1999. The "Demon Castle War" has been only talked about in games like Aria of Sorrow and Portrait of Ruin, and they were meant to be depicted at some point in a proper finale...

... then the series rebooted with Lords of Shadow.

That's it. St. Germain's purpose as a character was to foreshadow a game that will never see the light of day. He's heavily implied to be some sort of a time policeman, making sure that the timeline flows correctly: hence him opposing Death, which is inherently a sick concept, the inevitabilty of death vs. time manipulation locked in an eternal battle. But eh, it got aborted.

I think St. Germain is funny. I like the humor he brings, I like his style, and he has one of my favorite boss fights. Plus, thanks to him you can forge the gatling gun <3 but you're right that he does very little. Sure, he's a foil to Zead, but idk, it's not like Hector gives a shit about him lmao, not helped by how bad he is at making any case for himself. I would have definitely added more scenes with Trevor, or Julia.
