Venice is battling historic floods. Waters are reaching thigh-high levels and are still rising. The exceptionally high tidal waves even prompted the mayor to close the iconic St. Mark’s Square and call for donations to repair the Italian lagoon city. 

This is the worst flood Italy has seen in more than 50 years. The highest level ever recorded was 76 inches during the infamous flooding in 1966.
