Going through ST's electric issues. The only bad thing about this bike is taking the all the plastic off to work on pretty much anything.
It had flickering when ignition is turned on. I thought ignition switch needed to be clean or any connections with it. Took off bunch of covers and air filter housing to get to ignition switch. Taking off the switch was pain in the ass. It required T40 end and a breaker bar as it had thread click on them. My driver T40 tip wasn't enough so had to borrow a socket from my buddy.
I cleaned the ignition switch with contact cleaner and put dielectric grease to protect it. Nothing has changed; the problem unsolved. Went to ST owner forum and asked around. Many suggested to check "red wire" by starter solenoid as it was known to fail. Mine was intact.
I noticed it went nothing from flickering as I was checking the switch. For a hell of it I hooked my portable jump starter on the battery. All the lights came on bright without flickering. The battery always had over 12.5V so didn't think it was battery's fault.
I had ordered the new battery.
