Orangutan 🦧
Orangutan 🦧 :)
not sure if you wanted a fun fact but i’ll give one anyway. did you know orangutans just love straight up eating soap. it’s not harmful to them at all they just like eating it. one form of recreation for orangutans in captivity is blowing bubbles at them that they then pop with their mouth. i couldn’t find any good pictures of that though so here’s one of a guy just eating soap
What? Where’s the explicit?
i didnt set this so congratulations on being a government licensed trans ally 👍

re: your tags, i definitely think you have to have both and both influence each other! but i think its interesting because from what i can tell it seems like for certain people one of them came more naturally than the other. certain people might be really good at immediately logging what they take from studies into their brain and then just have to focus on knowing how to put that onto paper, where other people might have gotten their muscle memory down quicker but just are trying to draw things in a way they didnt intend to because they cant take in the little details as well. its also probably a matter of the types of artists that use references more heavily vs the types who freehand more often, and the level of which youre recreating references versus using them to inform an original composition. idk i just started thinking abt it today like ist really interesting to think about the way people learn and develop with art especially self taught artists
OH yeah for sure!! i guess for me personally i just find it a lot easier to simplify the details in how something works to use in my own art instead of muscle memory. i feel like in most professional settings (like art classes and stuff) there's a lot of emphasis placed on stuff like multiple warmups of drawing an object before you "draw it for real." and even though all of these are technically life studies there's a lot more emphasis on grasping control of your strokes and how your hand moves than i think happens in self taught circles! interesting to think about.
though yeah i didn't really consider artists who freehand! mostly because like. i dont think i could survive without using references HDKJFHJKS. but that's a good point. my grandma was actually a reallyyy good artist (i need to show you some of her stuff some time) but she was pretty much the opposite to me. her process was waaay more strategic than mine. it was all about making sure each stroke counted towards a specific part of the final piece. she was self-taught as well so it's very interesting to me how people break down components of art differently even if they are both self-taught!
