Like, Hermann explaining that his harmless crush on Pentecost is kind of an authority thing (among many other crushworthy qualities, but he doesn't need to go on about how hot the guy is right in front of Newt), but that's OKAY, because it's a harmless fantasy, but also because... well, isn't Newt sort of, in his own way, an authority in his field? yeah i think we've all had crushes on ppl where you know it's not gonna amount to anything and you wouldnt WANT it to. i love those fun crushes (i have a couple right now) and i think that’s what it is for hermann, but newt does take it a bit too seriously because he feels threatened somehow, and hermann finds it a bit cute and flattering that newt would work out to impress him because he found out hermann likes stacker

(building onto that Newt bein' jealous and Hermann havin' a crush on Pentecost) Newt finally breaks down and ask what it is Pentecost has that he doesn't have, and Hermann's just like 'UGH, NOTHING'. (and he's honest w/ Newt about what he finds attractive about the guy, but is very careful to communicate that it's just a silly crush and that what he and Newt have is... weird, and special and different, and that the things he likes in his crushes are all traits he can find in Newt to some degree)

well i mean, like, the way i see it, stacker is someone who cares about saving the world, he cares about his daughter, he’s trying his best, and he is also an authority figure, and hermann can’t help but try to impress him

but it’s okay that stacker and newt are too different people and hermann doesn’t necessarily have a type, he just likes who he likes

Stacker is handsome, every part of him, and Hermann finds himself staring at his mouth most often.
