Call for Information: VP Animations Animatronics
This group of animatronics pictured on the VP Animations website have no explanation attached! I believe their sign says ‘Barnyard Jamboree’, but googling such terms procures few results. Does anyone here have a lead?
Call for Information: Big Fresh Animatronics
Big Fresh was a New Zealand supermarket chain founded in 1988 after Graham Evans traveled to America and discovered Stew Leonard’s. He began to conceptualize the supermarket as an experience, not dissimilar to a farmer’s market. The produce was fresh, there were live country music performances, and kids could be entertained by both animatronics and walkaround characters. After having drinks with Evans, Bill Harris would go on to design the animatronic group of fruits and vegetables known as the Goodness family in just a night and a day. These were only some of the unique pieces crafted for the Supermarket.
However, there is little to no documentation surrounding one animatronic of interest: There are many accounts of an animatronic cow at a Big Fresh location, with host of the Remember When? podcast Jane Yee specifying the Johnsonville location, and video footage of an animatronic pig and chicken available online. One account reads: “This one time at Big Fresh, I was going up to press the moo cow button and some other little c*** pressed it right before I got there. I lost the fucking plot and had a full on meltdown.”
Despite these accounts, there is no concrete evidence of there ever having been an animatronic cow at any Big Fresh location. The chain was bought out in 2003, and the animatronics remained intact to be sold on to local businesses, private collectors, and vintage stores, leaving this mystery behind. Please reach out if you have a lead.
Kelsie the Cow
Kelsie (short for Calcium) was made by VP Animations for Anderson Dairy. She speaks as part of the Barnyard Buddies tour, which guides children through the processes of the dairy. Her favorite flavor of ice cream is oh, all of them, and we can see her introduce you to the other barnyard animals before the hour-long tour begins. Children go on to learn about packaging, pasteurization, and quality control.
