I just completed this repair of a 30 year old piece of artwork for a local client. They had two of these that they requested me to repair. The foil had begun to peel back from the glass on both of them and the wire anchors in the back of this one peeled out of the solder bead and broke. I forgot to take pictures of the before but thought I would share with you. I pulled everything apart and reassembled it and ran new wire hangers along the vertical beads to the left and right of the clear plated glass artwork. I think it turned out good and will easily last a lifetime. Completed this install today at clients home. Started with a vision and rendering (image 1) to a completed panel in their window (image 2 & 3). Used hidden mounts so it would fit the window without showing mounting fixtures or replacing the window. I absolutely “LOVE” designing stained or leaded glass windows. At this stage I am just laying out several line options, these were quick freehand designs I envision knowing my client’s taste. I could do these all day long. My knowledge of the nature and history of stained glass gives me advantages when it comes to designing them. I have a favorite or two in this set... wonder if it might be yours??? Next step if one is chosen is glass selection... you can bet I will choose only the best stuff, Wissmach, Youghiogheny, Kokomo and Lambert’s. These windows are functional, they open to let in the flies, I mean breeze!!! When I see this, I would never want to block it. If I cannot install directly to the panes, I will design these as functional tri-fold stained glass. Has anyone tried that yet? I did, it’s cool! I will post finished windows when done!!!
